About this deal

It takes a little getting used to with the proper tilt angle where more upright to hold and push it it cuts the snow and fully clears the ground but if there are any uneven surface in front of you, even by 1/8" it will stop you on your tracks. If that sounds like a problem, take a look at this model from SuperHandy, which should be much easier to handle at just 10 pounds.

I use a lot of tools for a lot of different tasks at my home, and this situation is actually one of the few where I recommend the corded version over battery for outside. Some large electric snow shovels have a set of wheels mounted to the rear of the base, which allows them to stand upright on their own so you can maneuver the machine with minimal lifting. Most electric snow shovels max out with a fairly narrow clearing width and low clearing depth, potentially forcing you to make multiple passes to clear a proper path. Battery-powered snow shovels are heavier than the corded ones, which makes them harder and more tiring to maneuver. Fortunately, winter cooperated and we were able to test most of the electric snow shovels through two storms. Power shovels are a type of rope/cable excavator, where the digging arm is controlled and powered by winches and steel ropes, rather than hydraulics like in the modern hydraulic excavators. Also, adjustable speed could be a nice option as I don't always want to thow the snow to 30 feet away.

Power shovels normally consist of a revolving deck with a power plant, drive and control mechanisms, usually a counterweight, and a front attachment, such as a crane ("boom") which supports a handle ("dipper" or "dipper stick") with a digger (" bucket") at the end. Works well to clean up down to minimal thickness, but is not intended to absolutely clean the sidewalk, additional scraping or treatment would be needed. When Tony isn’t writing, he can be found working on his latest home improvement effort at his home in North Carolina. I will update my experience if and when I encounter deeper snow and possible stray stone, rock, branch encounter and the associated damage. Clearing a 12-inch path through up to 6 inches of snow, then blowing it 20 feet away, this snow shovel allows you to uncover a lot of ground after a light snowfall. The top handle was made from relatively thin plastic, and part of the handle came loose during testing. Most electric snow shovels launch their snow between 20-30 feet, which is on par with weaker corded snowblowers, but shorter than cordless and gas snowblowers that can throw snow a distance of 40 feet or more.

Ego has a reputation for making some of the most powerful cordless yard tools and this electric snow shovel is no exception. Less waste thanks to change-out intervals that are generally longer than those for similar-sized hydraulic machines — leading to fewer component change-outs. An entirely electric machine, the 7495 is cleaner and more efficient than diesel-powered machines, plus its regenerative braking technology feeds electrical energy back to the grid. As with our regular snow shovel tests, we wanted to come as close to real-world conditions as we could. They’re pretty heavy, those we tested weighed in at 13 to 26 pounds compared to only 4 pounds for our best regular snow shovel. While they don’t all do a great job with this, the top performers chewed through it and saved me a lot of backache. With a corded model you don’t have to worry about how long clearing snow takes you, the power level of the corded shovels was more consistent than with a battery and the good corded models are also more consistent when dealing with heavy slush.
