I played a back-to-back the other week on an NXS2, and the other DJ plugged his headphones into the mini-jack slot and was trying to cue his track up while I was mid-mix, which obviously is pretty bad on him which is another matter, but hey, that would have definitely been a good time for the new feature!I mean, the Mobius, why would I ever want any mix to sound like someone just managed to clear a screen on the game show Catchphrase?
First Impressions / Setting up In this review we take a look at the DJM-900NXS2, which is an update to the old DJM-900NXS and the companion mixer to the CDJ-2000NXS2 multi player. USB ports and a top-loaded input switcher: For swift and seamless DJ handovers between different PCs/Macs.
Simply connect external hardware via Aux or your iPhone/iPad via USB to engage instrument and FX apps. Round the back the Midi socket has been sacrificed to take the mic socket that’s moved from the top (remember, there’s an iPad USB presumably also for Midi now on top), and the ground poles for your Technics earth leads are now frankly huge (not sure why), but everything else is exactly as you’d expect from the previous DJM-900NXS. We take extra care to ensure the Pioneer DJM-900NXS2 you hire is prepped and ready to deliver sonic excellence. I know you can always just use the FX option button to turn it off, which is always an alternative, but then you lose the movement of the parameter no matter how fast or slow that is and is sometimes preferred, but having the option now is good without the worry of going too far, especially out of breakdowns.InterApp support means you can use FX/Instrument apps on your iPad – for example the virtual RMX-1000 app. p>
Sound Color FX
6 studio-quality sound FX - Sweep, Filter, Crush, Dub Echo, Noise and Space - are available on every channel. In my opinion, it's been made way too intense to the point I'm really finding it hard to use in the same way as it seems like the bitrate is dropped so much more with so little application, and now how intense it sounds on the small KRK's, I'm pretty cautious of if I want to risk using it in the club environment. Talking of sharing the mixer with other DJs, the DJM-900NXS2 has twin USBs meaning twin sound cards, so two DVS DJs can share the mixer by plugging their laptops in simultaneously, making DJ switchovers a smooth and wonderful thing (Pioneer has of course taken a leaf straight out of Rane’s book with this feature). You can also connect a PC/Mac with just one USB cable to control rekordbox dj and other DJ software with all 4 players.
