About this deal

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Corry has given me lots to consider - especially the concept of emotional footprints that we leave behind in houses. Gripping story with near and distant past and present cleverly interwoven to show how the secrets of the past will always come to find us. The dual timeline was amazing in telling the story of how Tall Chimneys was not only for paying guests but for Evacuees during the war.

The atmosphere was taut and chilling, with a great sense of impending doom in the modern day viewpoint. The effect of Coming to Find You is to make the reader realise there is no clear-cut morality and that the choices we make are not always within our control. Fast forward to Nancy’s stepbrother Martin being convicted for the murder of Nancy’s mother and her stepfather, with Nancy herself facing a “silent sentence“. The detail about the secret army added a level of jeopardy and with both Nancy and Elizabeth’s chapters frequently ending on cliffhangers, I was hooked and desperate to know what happened next! This is a gripping, atmospheric plot told in two time frames, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you turning the pages. The house has clues, the locals have secrets and it seems that virtually everyone that has a connection to her has a little snippet of something that they r not being completely honest about. I thought this was portrayed well and made me think about how difficult this must be for those who’s reality this may be. However I did really enjoy Elizabeth’s storyline from world war 2 and would have liked the whole book on that.

too, there is a pervading rippling unease throughout both timelines and with plenty of emotion from guilt to fear.

Her grandmother’s beautiful Regency house in a quiet seaside village seems like the safest place to hide.

But as often happens when I read a dual timeline story, one is able to hold my attention far better than the other.I feel it’s safe to say her latest one, ‘Coming to Find You‘, is slightly different from other books I’ve read by this author. There may be many decades between the main characters and events but there are parallels with both stories – controlling characters, guilt and murder. I love Jane Corry's books and really enjoyed this one with a dual timeline of the present story and the past.

She creates characters who are thoroughly believable and whose stories the readers are wholly invested in. Conversely, there’s one thing that affects Nancy for a lot of her life which I find a tad weak as I think I expected more.

Finally, on a completely separate note – and a complete coincidence, this is the second book I’ve read this week which mentions a wartime British evacuation ship sunk by a U-boat torpedo – The SS City of Benares! A. Paris, author of Behind Closed Doors'Yet another twisty, exciting book that I couldn't put down' Heidi Perks, author of The Whispers'Combines the heart-warming with the thrilling' Emma Curtis, author of Invite Me In'Her best yet. There’s a kind of psychological DNA with the present strand of narrative involving Nancy, the past events at Tall Chimneys and the short interjections concerning the night of the murder. The combination of two different time periods, a compelling mystery, and engaging characters make for a truly unforgettable reading experience. Another cracker of a book from this author, great read and I would recommend to both readers of Jane Corry and to new readers too.
