About this deal

The book can get slightly confusing when it bounces between a few of the different exhibitions but I was glued from Page 1. This a quick and entertaining read which is a selection of snippets of Feinnes' incredible achievements and adventures and is a good summary of the amazing life he has lived. Fiennes has written books about his army service and his expeditions as well as a book defending Robert Falcon Scott from modern revisionists.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. He was named Best Sportsman in the 2007 ITV Great Briton Awards and in 2009 he became the oldest Briton to reach the summit of Everest. He has distilled those principles and ways of behaving that have allowed Ranulph Fiennes to do extraordinary things, and now he has shared those in this book. The books featured on this site are aimed primarily at readers aged 13 or above and therefore you must be 13 years or over to sign up to our newsletter. I found the timeline jumping back and forth a little frustrating at times but as a whole this is a very inspiring and impressive read.Mmmm I like the author, one of the last of the great adventurers, but I found this book to be a tad egotistical. To learn from failure, understand perseverance, and also recognise what it really means to be motivated.A great introduction to all of this great man's major expeditions and challenges, including Antartica and the Eiger North Face. A humble and honest account of some of the world's most difficult and challenging expeditions undertaken by the author. Sir Ranulph Fiennes was the first person to reach both poles by surface travel and the first to cross the Antarctic Continent unsupported. In the 1960s he was removed from the SAS Regiment for misuse of explosives but, after joining the army of the Sultan of Oman, received that country's Bravery Medal on active service in 1971. Just the challenge of 7 marathons, in 7 continents, over 7 days is enough to inspire anyone to find their mountain, no matter what it is.

Fiennes has led over thirty expeditions, including the first polar circumnavigation of the Earth, and in 2003 he ran seven marathons in seven days on seven continents in aid of the British Heart Foundation. Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 3rd Baronet, OBE, better known as Ranulph (Ran) Fiennes, is a British adventurer and holder of several endurance records. Now in his late seventies, Sir Ranulph Fiennes looks back on a lifetime of exploration, and draws powerful, inspiring lessons that we can all use when faced by the tribulations of everyday life. He is the only person yet to have been awarded two clasps to the Polar medal for both Antarctic and the Arctic regions.
