About this deal

Artie 3000’s versatile movement and the ability to set the distance and/or degree of movement or direction via the Artie interface means that Artie can draw a vast variety of pictures all you need is your imagination and an understanding of the coding tiles. He found the drag and drop tiles easy to use and understood that different sections could have a loop of repeated actions. Use the software to easily drag and drop blocks of code into the command area, telling Artie 3000 to turn right or left, move forward or backward, and pick up or put down a pen. Artie has 360 degree movement so he can move backwards, forwards and can turn and spin in any direction. He did point out it could be possible, although very very unlikely, that Artie could be used to deliver malware.

Older or more experienced children can extend the learning further as Artie supports the use of more advanced programming languages such as Blockly, Python and even Javascript! There’s a setup guide included with Artie, which is great for someone who is confident with computers. Syd was beyond proud of herself for mastering Artie 3000 all by herself – I took this photo to show her dad what she’d done!

From simple designs to complex code creations, these drawing robots translate code into works of art. The easy-to-use drag and drop programming can be used on a Mac, PC, tablet or smartphone and offers four modes of play; pre-programmed shapes, games, art for colouring and freeform coding. Test your code in the online simulator before setting Artie 3000 on a sheet of paper to draw the shape you've coded. Lift the flap on Artie’s head and insert the felt tip pen into the hole, pushing down until the tip touches the Marker-parker.

With four modes of play: pre-programmed shapes, games, art for colouring and freeform coding, children will love telling Artie what to do! With four modes of play: pre-programmed shapes, games, art for colouring and free-form coding, children will love coding Artie to “tell” the robot what to do!Artie 3000 comes with preloaded designs to help kids try out their coding skills, before creating their own designs. Perfect for learning in the classroom or at home, Artie makes a great activity for kids to stay engaged, entertained, and learning. On the reverse are the instructions to code it yourself (dragging the items onto the screen and inputting the relevant numbers).

I inserted one of the included washable markers into the receptacle under the cover and made sure that the tip on the other end was at the correct height. The only negative I can say about Artie 3000 is that it needed calibrating out of the box plus a couple of times since, because even though all other requirements such as a level surface was being met, it was not drawing the correct distance and the angles were not to the correct degree. Thanks to inbuilt wifi it connected without any issues and we could access the Artie interface to code and draw with him. Please note Artie requires 4 AA batteries (not included) and a tablet or computer to connect Artie to.

As the video shows, you can choose to select the pre-installed commands, or do the actual coding yourself.
