About this deal

Superb performance by the cast of the new updated series, The first show in 1978-1990 was ok, but it didn’t get the characters right as described by the books, Siegfried was too old, and Tristan, the first Helen, and James were not on the mark. Claude Whatham's 1974 film All Creatures Great and Small is a modest and charming cornucopia of nostalgia, cuddly calves, romance and acerbic-yet-warm-hearted Yorkshire folk. He soon discovers that treating the animals is as much about treating their owners, and the local farmers are a tough crowd to please. The romantic interest (for Herriot) in the shaped of farmer's daughter Helen Alderson (Rachel Shenton) appears to be lost to him when, in the final (of six) episodes she delivers a bombshell. All six episodes of the miniseries set in the 1930s and based on the popular books by James Herriot. Based on James Herriot's autobiographical bestsellers 'If Only They Could Talk' and 'It Shouldn't Happen to a Vet', the series stars Christopher Timothy as James Herriot, Robert Hardy as Siegfried Farnon, Peter Davidson as his brother Tristan, and Carol Drinkwater as James's wife Helen. This beloved series set the standard for eccentric characters facing unusual predicaments in the British countryside. Having watched the original series again and again (years ago), enjoying the incredible charm and beauty of it, I must say the remake of 2020 holds up very well.Since everything we sell is brand new and still sealed we have no way to know if an item is defective until you receive it. Those familiar with the earlier series (not forgetting two even earlier feature films) will find the new one has quite a lot of changes : additional characters and invented scenes and rather more in the way of humour. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. Newly qualified vet James (Nicholas Ralph) moves from Scotland to rural Darrowby in the Yorkshire Dales working alongside the experienced and demanding Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West).

He soon discovers that treating the animals is as much about treating their owners, and the Dalesʼ farmers are a tough crowd to please. Despite being met with much scepticism from a number of the locals James finds himself growing increasingly drawn to the place, especially when he begins falling for local woman Helen Alderson (Rachel Shenton). The dialogue is realistic and the characters behave with each other just as friends and colleagues would. I finished watching the first three seasons for the fifth time waiting for some channel to play the other seasons after Helen Drinkwater left the series.
