About this deal

Although the Vikings lose a movement if a battle lasts more than one battle round, I generally care more about killing as many Berserkers as I can. Being on the right side of that decision is where the best player (with wit and a small amount of luck) will find themselves. The controlling Viking player then can play a Movement card (see previous Action Point for details) and move not only this army with the Leader but any number of allowed armies the appropriate amount of spaces, as shown on the played Movement card.

And they usually do roll at least one, and since they get to swing first you might lose that extra die you need (because those Berserkers hit often! If you have a problem with our products after the expiry of the guarantee, we will also be glad to assist you. The defending player then takes dice from each unit’s pool, up to the number of those units in the battle, and rolls them (Ex. The use of colour to differentiate the battle dice and different factions really help to streamline the battle phase and it can be taught and grasped in a few minutes. So while I like the small deck, small hand, and the ability to swap in advanced cards, there is definitely room for this to improve.Players who don’t know if war games are for them will be rewarded with 878: Vikings, if for any reason, just to see what a really well-done dice rolling combat game is like. Then any units in the Fled Units circle of that faction are retrieved and placed with any friendly army on the board. The board populates with the Housecarl and Thegn units as shown on the board in the small circled spots. There isn’t much you can do to impact/influence combat, so you’re at the mercy of rolling better and using enough troops to make sure you roll you maximum number of dice.

At 15mm you can tell that they’re soldiers carrying axes and spears but beyond that, the detail is a bit lost. Speaking of combat, I do like that each faction has custom dice, not just different in color but in the symbols and number of those symbols. This method can be really restrictive: first off, if you only have one movement card you end up with only one option for movement on your turn. You still get some decision about how to optimize that movement among your armies, but it stinks when you have no choices.
