Having a distinct connector designated for dimmable power also helps prevent confusion of dimmed and non-dimmed circuits which could lead to equipment damage. Even the smallest stage pin connectors are rated for 20A, which translates to 2.4kW at 120V, compared to the 15A and 1.8kW of the NEMA 5-15. In applications where cables are on the floor, the low profile of the connector allows for connections that are only slightly higher than the cables they connect. and 20A plugs are the same size physically all round except the 10A has a slot at the bottom and the 20A has a flat section. A 5 pin plug can be fitted to the Satellite 650, but inside the plug, there will be no wire to the centre pin anyway, so no point.A stage pin connector (SPC), or grounded stage pin (GSP), is a connector used primarily in the theatre industry for stage lighting applications in the United States. Stage pin connectors are generally used for conducting dimmed power from a dimmer to stage lighting instruments, although occasionally they can power other equipment. Scott, C.; Wolfe, P.; Hayes, B. In Europe, the most common range of heavy commercial and industrial connectors are made to IEC60309 (formerly IEC 309) and various standards based on it (including BS4343 and BSEN60309-2). These are often referred to in the UK as CEE industrial, CEEform or simply CEE plugs, or as "Commando connectors" (after the MK Commando brand name for these connectors).

So if the OP's oven does take anything approaching 32A per phase it makes it even more odd - I just googled for commercial smoking ovens, and the first link I looked at was an Australian company, and they have a 21kW model.

Let’s take a Satellite 650 Standard for and example.

This is the reason why some contractors will fit all their machines with 32A so there is never a issue with connections. Interesting fact. Linsley, T. (2008). Advanced Electrical Installation Work. The term plug is in general and technical use in all forms of English, common alternatives being power plug, [1] electric plug, [2] You might think this would give a total of 15A per phase but you would be wrong! because the two loads are drawing currents from the phase that are 60 degrees out of phase with each other and so partially cancel giving us 13A (you can treat a magnitude/phase pair as a 2D vector or a complex number for the purposes of adding them together). Brands we work with to supply our 32A connector plugs include our own top value RS PRO line, as well as other trusted names including ABB, Bals, Legrand, Mennekes, and Merlin Gerin. This goes some way to ensuring that only boats that have paid the required fee (and thus obtained an appropriately made-up adaptor cable) are able to use the electricity. Stein, B. (1997). The answer is yes you can change out the plug to a different one however there are some rules around what one is the minimum Amp rating you can install If the Machine does not require a Neutral it will only have 4 Wires. You can use a 5 Pin plug but the middle pin will be swaying in the breeze and will prevent you plugging it into a regular point in a building without 5 Pin outlets. Odom, W. (2004).
