About this deal

I found this book captivating and exciting. A fast paced struggle of a young girl accompanied by wolves and a boy to save those she loves makes for an excellent story of friendships and trust. It has made me realize that fantasy, Si Fi and action and adventure are not the only books that I like. Follow the dark and stormy girl, the soldier (aka the dancing boy), the revolutionary, and the wolves as they journey through a Russian winter to discover how to be wild and how to be themselves, which may just be the most wild journey yet. That is . . .” Feo’s mother’s face spoke a hundred different swearwords before she said, “Inaccurate.”

I found Rakov a formidable foe, his hatred towards the Petrovnas and the wolves made me fear for their safety; his character was so real, I believed in him. God, I just love Katherine Rundell's writing. It's so beautiful and magical and other-worldly. She truly has a gift with words. She can transport the reader out of the mundane world and into a little slice of magic like no other. 5 billion stars. The snow gossiped and hinted at storms and birds. It told a new story every morning. Few grinned and sniffed the sharpness of the air. It’s the most talkative weather there is...” I really like how the author, Kathrerine Rundell, ended the story, it made me so happy for the characters, however It was quite sad but I liked that. There were enjoyable parts to the planning of the revolution in a burnt out castle, the imagination of the children inventing a plausible costume was creative and fun, I liked the different characters and their Russian names and personalities, parts were quite atmospheric. The two soldiers dropped the elk on the rug. The sitting room was small, and the two young men were large and mustached. Their mustaches seemed to take up most of the room. The culmination of the story and several of fight scenes throughout the book seemed too farfetched for children the size of adults to ride wolves like horses made you think perhaps these wolves were meant to be a different size to the ones in our world but this wasn't explained. The repetition of children getting the better of armed Russian guards became silly, one armed guard was taken out by a child's ballet manouevre

Have another look at chapter 8 which talks about different kinds of cold. Create a weather chart of to illustrate wind cold, snow cold, ice cold, hard cold, blind cold. Or you could make up your own categories. Paint a picture

My point is that you will keep your hands off my daughter if you value their current position at the ends of your arms.’

What do we do now, Mama?” she asked. “Now they’ve said we have to kill the wolves? We won’t, will we? I won’t let you.” For example, Feo chases away some of Rakov's men from a village, not understanding that they can return, in greater numbers, and do far more harm than they'd originally intended. When this is pointed out to her, she ropes the other children into whittling "wolves' paws," which they can tie to their hands and feet and use to leave intimidating pawprints around the village. This will, somehow, frighten the dozens of gun-toting soldiers away. Obviously nothing comes of this plan, but what I don't understand is why it's included to begin with. That's not the only incident of its kind. I really enjoyed Wolf Wilder, it was an interesting and meaningful book, showing how love and hope can go a long way. I liked the imagery used to describe the settings in Russia (where it was set). The story made me eager to know what was going to happen next; I kept on guessing what was going to happen in the story.Family, good vs evil, revolution, bravery, corruption, fantasy, nature, love, freedom, difference, diversity. Rundell gives readers a fierce young heroine whose strength and independence are as appealing and authentic as her painstakingly concealed vulnerabilities...Rundell’s strength is in the beauty of her writing—lyrical sentences that evoke the drama and simplicity of fairy- and folklore, combined with descriptions of a setting that will have readers shivering along with the frozen characters as they trudge across the unforgiving terrain." Was Feo brave? What does it mean to be brave? Is it possible to be brave and afraid at the same time?

i wish the non-russian readers could feel the fullness of her grief because as for me it's an important detailAll stories are about wolves,” wrote Margaret Atwood in The Blind Assassin. “All worth repeating, that is. Anything else is sentimental drivel.” Atwood’s character was speaking metaphorically, but if this assertion is true, then is it also true that literally writing about wolves protects the story from falling into that category?
