Admittedly I already loved the way that Liz Greene explains the myths and makes them relevant to the challenges of our lives today. I haven't bought the Mythic deck yet as I can't afford it but I find I manage well with this book using my usual deck. These 4 or 5-star reviews represent the opinions of the individuals who posted them and do not reflect the views of Etsy.
Not surprising because the Companion book's explanations are a little too graphic (although I am sure, true to the myths themselves) for me. Greek mythology expresses archetypes that we can use to explore inner psychological experiences familiar to everyone. The cards are stylised, with slightly two dimensional imagery of the pantheon of gods, goddesses, mythical figures and heroes and heroines of Greek mythology. The artwork is fresh clean and vibrant the cards appear simple and each illustration has the title written clearly above the lines are exact and there is a good deal of detail to work with. The card illustrations depict the archetypal characters of the Greek myths, whose experiences perfectly reflect the deeper patterns of our lives today. The focus in the Mythic Tarot is therefore predominantly psychological: it’s all about understanding what makes us tick.
My feeling is that reading these cards gives to allow new potential a different perspective and although the artist may have been given mandate to follow some precepts it is clear that not all the cards link especially easily with tradition. Whenever any theme is applied to a tarot deck there is a risk that the basic structure of tarot will be overwhelmed, leaving a collection of images with no underlying meaning holding them together.
