About this deal

The characters represented here do not resonate with actual Christians who have read any of the Bible, rather than just sort of skimmed through it. The couple hold hands, even kiss and as the title suggests, in 1956, finally, for only a few short years before her death from cancer, Joy becomes Mrs. Louisiana’s Way Home is an engaging and ultimately heartwarming story that explores themes of homelessness, belonging, abandonment, finding a family to love you, foster care, friendship, caring adults, determination, loss, hope, disappointment, etc. It’s a story of perseverance in more ways than one, of hope, of friendship, trust and ultimately, love.

As magical as the writing is, though, the novel's true magic is the revelation of the man behind the stories we all know and the woman, the outsider, who captured his heart.

Written in the first person from Joy’s POV, I often found myself wondering if she was being truthfully portrayed. Their Eros-story led to some of Lewis's greatest works, yet Joy is most commonly known for how she died. During this time in history (1950s), Joy’s independence and decisions regarding her marriage and children were most likely questioned.

Her passion lies in the teaching of Physical Education and developing a programme that suits all of the students in her care. She went on to specialise in Ophthalmology, training initially at the Royal Eye Infirmary, Plymouth. Reading this story challenges me to be that adult who watches out for kids…to be the person who is ready and willing to secure their welfare, to offer a safe place or warm gesture, to offer kindness instead of disapproval or criticism. A: Acceptance was so important to Joy because it was something she never had as a child, or as a wife in her first marriage.

I am also happy she found comfort and love after the years she spent in an unhappy and abusive relationship. But it is also the story of a woman who found Eros with a man who ended up loving her as deeply as she loved him.

Under unbearable pressures, Joy, a Jewish atheist, falls to her knees, prays for help, has a moment of grace and becomes a devout Christian. I did not see a woman who was attempting to work on her marriage, although this could just be because of the author's representation, and trusting in God to work through her marriage or through her divorce.
