This reveals the general invisibility of female sexuality, particularly same-sex sexuality, that was reflected in British criminal law at the time, and was subsequently transported around the Commonwealth. On 23 March, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) found that the criminalisation of consensual, same-sex intimacy between women is a human rights violation.
