All Essie ever wanted was to have a normal life but in the end she found herself drawn back to Beldam House because she just can’t stop her witchiness (although the ability to instantly chill wine is pretty awesome, even she has to admit). It just tries to tackle way too much, and introduces too many topics including some quite heavy themes around consent. It was also interesting that no one else knew anything about it, but somehow he had the records of how much rent, they owed him.

Essie actually says some really gross things to Josh about wanting the rent and I couldn’t understand why she resented him so much. Despite finding it challenging to get into at first, I enjoyed the story and would like to spend more time with the characters. Essie and Josh were an adorable couple but I would have loved to spend more time with them getting to know and love each other.

One of my faves was resident ghost and former witch Prudence whose random appearances at the most inconvenient times were genuinely entertaining. i was expecting a cute cozy romance, but josh and essie have no chemistry it’s almost jarring to read about.

When he is not commenting Essie's body, he is commenting her friend Blessing and her "swaying hips" that "ensnare men". Would have liked to have seen this as two separate books with more meat to it, or less downtime between the “freezing” and the “burning. Essie is a witch, living with several other witches, all with various strengths, in the aforementioned house that Josh is having trouble finding. They provided different perspectives on the magic world and made the story's world feel more multi-dimensional.
