This is an excellent example of creating a femme fatale the right way, and it’s incredibly effective. And the art uses the characters ample charms effectively as one of many weapons in the characters arsenal.

An experience you feel embroiled in, a feeling that you’re being dragged along by the story and all you can do is hang on for dear life.

A lot of that has to do with the overall aesthetic of the comic, with Ang Hor Keng’s art and designs having an almost timeless feel to them but also being illustratively reminiscent of old school movie posters and pulp dime novel covers. Gun Honey collects issues 1-4 of the Titan Comics/Hard Case Crime series written by Charles Ardai and art by Ang Hor Kheng. You have everything here, origin story and tragedy, years spent working with guns and infiltrating highly secured areas and of course nefarious crime syndicates and government organizations trying to use Joanna for their own purposes.

But while I had hopes for this book in terms of not being from the male gaze, that hope died just as quickly as the first casualty in this comic. If you’re a fan of crime thrillers, hardwired pulp, and edge of your seat grindhouse action then Gun Honey is a five star experience you can’t miss out on. But yeah, you're not going to be stopping every few pages, attempting to decipher the most cryptic of plots.
