About this deal

On the one hand, I can see elements of Hoffman's style, which she has honed and crafted into a wondrous thing, richly adored by so many readers (myself included). Without winter to shock you into another year, entire seasons had dissolved in the sunshine; and no one could manage time in a place where even the roses were so confused that they bloomed year round. She loves him, though it's not really clear why she would, except that it's a childhood infatuation that she never had a chance to outgrow because he is her entire life. They run away before Rae finishes high school and after five states in seven years, they end up in Southern California. Years later, renamed Rosina, she runs away and is taken in by a theatrical troupe, where her natural talent for singing propels her into the limelight.

The third person narrative skates deftly from the present to the past to the tangential past as we look back at Lila's memories. When they refused to take her to the hospital, she went back to her room and knelt by the side of the bed. Dilly Court grew up in North-east London and began her career in television, writing scripts for commercials.

And from the audio version, I did not get at all what the publisher says: "This contemporary world is set against a series of Russian folktales told by an old woman who lives at the edge of Manhattan, in a place so well hidden it can only be found once in a life-time.

But when Lila, who dabbles in fortune-telling, meets Rae, those secrets erupt inside Lila's soul and their fire will not be tamed. The novel is much concerned with the rituals of accepting loss and death, the ways that people find to renew their strength and then go on. These books are not doing anything new but you know what you’re getting into when you give them a go.I can't stay that I loved the main characters in this book - they are definitely flawed, complicated, and don't always make the best choices (or ones I agree with)- but they still felt real. I have taken over the past few years to reading three books at once: I have grown to like the variety, and it lights a proverbial fire under me to keep going. It's tense always, and the author pulls you deeply into the mind of a sad person (Rae), who you just want to shake out of her fog.

But he says he can prove his claim and yet it is not his intention to evict them from the only home they have known.Book One of The Rockwood Chronicles Reader reviews for Fortune's Daughter'I literally could not put this book down'⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'Dilly Court never disappoints .
