About this deal

I loved so much about this book, the school itself was like Hogwarts but without the magic and instead the kids were given lessons in crimnastics, forgery, lock picking and gardening.

It’s reassuring that even when you’ve got to pick a pocket or two, boys, you know you’re being taught to do wrong, so that one day you can put the world to right. As the Break-In commences, Gabriel will have to rely on his friends to solve the mystery of the Nameless' past, and how it relates to his present. The first book in the ‘criminally good’ Crookhaven series, the secret school where students are taught to do wrong, so that one day, they can put the world to rights. I loved the mystery adventure elements as Gabriel tries to figure out his past and who his parents were.To survive, he picks pockets, but when he picks the pocket of Caspian Crook, he is invited to Crookhaven, a boarding school for budding thieves who use their skills for good. The second book in the 'criminally good' Crookhaven series, the secret school where students are taught to do wrong, so that one day, they can put the world to right. At Crookhaven, students are trained in lock-picking, forgery and ‘crim-nastics’, all with the intention of doing good out in the world, by conning the bad and giving back to the innocent. g. there is a river crossing with the first years ("crooklings") to get to the school and a sorting ceremony into houses - but it is really well done. Penelope’s father decrees that she must be separated from her friends, but they continue to meet secretly at night after discovering Maravel's forgotten Maze, hidden deep beneath the lake.

Good messages on teamwork and kindness, as well as the importance of practising skills (in fact it was nice to see this applied to lessons as I always tell students that writing is a skill and you can get better at it if you practice, just like you can get better at football if you practice). Favourite no context quote: ‘Because it is the outsiders, the forgotten, the ones who’ve always felt like they don’t belong, who end up changing the world. But with the mystery of The Nameless still to uncover and the discovery of Maravel’s Maze, it’s going to be another year to remember.Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages.
