About this deal

This wonderful book about the magic of clouds is full of surprising and original poems, perfect for upper key stage two children either at school or at home. A cookie set by YouTube to measure bandwidth that determines whether the user gets the new or old player interface. You learn a couple of different things like how to identify each type of cloud, the different processes at work that produce them, the significance each of these clouds has for the weather, and some of the optical phenomena that are produced by certain types of clouds.

If you’re more the type of person who is fascinated by clouds and just wants to get a better grasp on how they form, how they got the names they have, and what the implications of all those formations are, pick up a book that’s educational in a fun, engaging way. Nothing much happens in the relationship, just as nothing much happens at her job, but toward the end of the book there is a violent episode involving neo-Nazi punks that precipitates her departure from Berlin. Like Tatiana, an entirely refreshing portrait of young womanhood, it is unselfconscious, uncompromising, wholly authentic: a fraying mass of narrative loose ends, it is also somehow satisfying in its open-endedness. Part III describes the interaction of clouds with the large-scale circulation in the tropics, mid-latitudes, and polar regions. The author’s style is witty and eclectic and the book features beautiful photographs in addition to some line drawings that highlight some classical paintings and even lava lamps.

I preferred this recorded voice to any other voice I had heard in my life, especially on days when I felt disconnected from the city, attached by the thinnest of strings. There is next to no mention about Mexico, but Tatiana takes you on an interesting journey around Berlin, both in the present and the past and Tatiana almost lives in an imaginary world at times with her dreamy descriptions. ff Midnight trip to Holocaust memorial: "the 2711 concrete slabs like a stalled army converging from all sides.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to gift a book about clouds to a child, you’ll need to pick up something that’s more at their level. The text in this book isn’t very engaging (“just the facts, ma’am”), but I like that it has a single full page photo on the left and just a few sentences on the right of each double page spread. Tatiana, a Mexican fluent in German and living in Berlin, is not an academic but every thought sounded genuinely intelligent. These books are written in an easy-to-understand way, and they don’t get too complex (which can be really off-putting if you’re really curious about clouds but you’re finding the text too dry and technical). It has some ingredients of a good novel: but it's trite, and the reason for its triviality is a strange lacuna in the author's imagination of her main character. As a child in East Berlin, the sky gave him a sense of freedom: through the lovely image of his "cloud garden", he explains the lesson of flux he drew from cloud formations and applied to life during dictatorship and political upheaval. If that’s more your jam, then you can certainly find tons of books that incorporate clouds and what they mean in relation to living life as a human being in current times.
