About this deal

The closeness, loyalty, friendship, and dedication to each other - so I was surprised when Eames surmised that the second entry in The Band trilogy would feature mostly all new players. Rivulets of energy gather around her into a crackling nimbus, her eyes become a deep red and tears of blood streak down her checks. Tam’s coming of age not only includes finding a family (and romance) but also repairing the damage inside of herself.

Tam is not Clay Cooper (POV character for KOTW), experienced mercenary who sees his bandmates as just people.Tuck Hashford also had a rule about his only daughter going anywhere near the Monster Market, or the arena, or associating with mercenaries in general: “ No fucking way. The band Fable plays a few of these arenas as they travel north, and it’s in these early fights we get to meet our cast and get a taste of their skills.

I laughed my face off a few times but I will acknowledge that this sort of humour in fantasy is not for everyone. Due to this, it is definitely best to start with KoTW, though, saying that, reading snippets about the characters and events from the previous book whilst reading Bloody Rose might just make you eager to read KoTW so I guess that’s not a bad thing.Nicholas Eames’ freshman novel, Kings of the Wyld, was one of my favorite reads of 2017, a well-written, cleverly observed and often hilariously funny adventure fantasy pastiche that adhered to genre forms w You will laugh with, fight with, cry for ( and believe me, Poison had it right when they sang “just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song, every rose has its thorn” as Eames had me emotional for the first time by page 40 and it wasn’t the last time either. Eames once again hits the perfect balance of humour and heart, irreverent references and real emotion. However, apart from some spiky heavy metal imagery about vikings and stuff, the influence doesn’t go both ways. There are undertones of racism and politics in this book, woven into the storyline with a deft hand, but there is never the sense that anyone is preaching.
