About this deal

I feel as if I have said many, many things about Ardbeg over the past five years by way of introduction, so I’ll keep this a bit short and sweet. By using the Service, and by creating an account you represent, warrant and confirm that you are of legal age. Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. A curious burst of peachy, estery fruit, hickory wood, clove oil and a suggestion of black olives on the aftertaste. Finish: Seemingly lasting forever, with deep, deep, almost subterranean flavours of clove, tar and rich coffee.

The peppery spice is quite beautiful, and the buttery finish helps carry those flavours through the end. On the palate more dark chocolate, smoky bacon, cloves, burnt toffee, an oily, briny texture and a tarry finish. But at least there is lots of good whisky being released in general – I should probably revisit Ardbeg again soon, to see what some of their more recent releases are like. Almost light at the beginning, dry, a bit shy, with a sourish fruitiness, linseed oil, a bit musty, the oak is not directly recognizable, but more associable with the musty sourish.Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us. Fresh citrus on the palate, with honey and delicate peat smoke, rolling around to more citrus and a touch of mint on the finish. ex Vat) € 500,00 (in Vat) more info Ardbeg 15 Years Old Dun Bheagan Cask 794 / 800 48% 1994 € 198,35 (ex Vat) € 240,00 (in Vat) more info Ardbeg Galileo 49% 1999 € 285,12 (ex Vat) € 345,00 (in Vat) more info Ardbeg 12 Years Old Chieftain's Choice 1783-90 43% 1998 € 165,29 (ex Vat) € 200,00 (in Vat) more info Ardbeg 30 Years old Very Old Ardbeg 40% € 1. Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks, finished in Virgin Oak casks from the Black Sea Adyghe Republic in Russia before being bottled at 51. The peat is amazingly discreet, but quite dirty, sooty, menthol and after some time with a sweet tip.

Some unusual green tea and grassy notes towards the end, with nutmeg and some slight grapefruit style acidity to finish off – and round off – any vanilla sweetness. Good job on this release but allow me to give a big warning to those who awaits the general release of Kelpie on Ardbeg day 2017: I don’t think it will be up to this version. I have to say I am much more familiar with Falkirk’s Kelpie’s – being 20 metres high and made out of 928 stainless steel plates weighing in at a total of 300 tonnes! A wonderful, intense, ‘dancing’ nose, with lots of different, intertwined aromas – powerful, oily peat, dark chocolate, smoked fish, hints of seaweed, and a curious, sharp herbal note. I mean, come on, who expects some voodooo wood from Russia to transform a young Ardbeg spirit into a good whisky?

At first sip, it offers a peppery palate with a hint of spice accompanied by sweet treacle toffee and vanilla popcorn with a black olive aftertaste. This beautiful buttery and caramel layer folds beneath all those wonderful spices, and it lasts and lasts into the finish. Go deeper and pine resin and smoky fudge appear with water and drift into a peppery mouthfeel, with clove oil, coffee, hickory wood, seaweed and smoked fish. Finish: Seemingly lasting forever, with deep, deep, almost subterranean flavours of clove, tar, and rich toffee. That fades, leading the whisky into medicinal, iodine or TCP notes (almost old Laphroaig 10, when it was good).
