About this deal

The more recent trend of having older movies converted into board game form has seen some surprising, older movies adapted for the tabletop though – and there’s an unusual thread linking them aside from their source material. As a 2 player game it seems that the human player has much more to do than the dinosaur player but we will just swap next time but I think that if you have 3+ players it would even out (as 2 players one of you has to be multiple human characters). The start location is always only 4 moves away from the escape point, making it extremely difficult for the dinosaur player to stop humans from escaping in the end phase of the game. Instead of being eight and running from the imaginary dinosaurs, now you get the chance to take on the role of a dinosaur in an attempt to chase down and eat the pesky humans running amok on the island. The human player doesn’t have any cards and can’t play a card during Step Two of the round sequence.

In doing so, players just need to pay attention to the cliffs and fences that must be climbed between some sections. So I’m happy to report that we’re back in action with a full video review of Jurassic Park Danger so you can get a real feel at exactly how the game plays and if it’s one you want for your family game night.

On paper that might sound derivative, but a clever system of semi-random event cards makes it so that you’re never quite sure what to expect next. High quality components – Contains 1x game board, 110x cards, 11x player mats, 19x island tiles, 5x perimeter frames, 10x character movers, 3x dinosaur movers, 32x tokens, 1x die and instructions. The more popular, ‘serious’ games publishers – such as Fantasy Flight, for example – have a good track record for treating their licensed games really well, however. The game also features a unique mechanic where a player can take control of the dinosaurs and use them to their advantage. Captures the feel of the movies very well and is a good entry into the 1 vs Others board game genre.

Another issue that’s incredibly apparent is that the rules do suffer from having a lack of clarification on certain actions and situations. The dinosaur player has won every single time the game’s hit the table for my group and this seems to be very common – the balance is off, with the dinosaurs feeling far too powerful. Now you have to decide who will play the dinosaurs, and the rest of the players will be the characters. The objective for the humans is far more complex and intensive than the dinosaurs, as it would be if you were actual people stuck inside Jurassic Park. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Easy to understand instructions – High quality, easy-to-understand instructions make it simple to start playing right away. Those circumstances are if a dinosaur moves into a space with a character in it and that character isn’t sneaking, if a dinosaur stands up from sneaking in a space with a character not sneaking, or a character stands up from sneaking in a space with a dinosaur that isn’t sneaking. The facilities are then added at their pre-determined locations and the players start in the centre or the island with the dinosaurs starting in their pens. Exclusions apply on certain items - this will be calculated at the checkout stage and will show as a surcharge.

This could be the crossover success that brings the legacy genre of board games into the mainstream. The challenge of the game for the players playing as the human characters comes in figuring a way to use the actions on the cards to maneuver around the island, activate the locations, achieve their personal goal, and get to the helicopter pad. The board also doesn’t feel spacious enough to accommodate the three dinosaurs – they can easily block routes at any number of points on the board and cause damage to players. Though it’s thematic for there to be a risk of failure when climbing or sneaking, it’s not necessary for the theme to go this far when it adds to the balancing issues and can cause frustration.

They move every turn AND get an optional extra move… Dinos are attacking twice per turn usually, and there’s virtually no way to defend or outrun them. The dinosaur player wins once they have defeated/eaten 3 characters in a 2/3 player game or 4 characters for a 4/5 player game. Every turn, players must play a card face down on their character card in secret, with the dinosaur player being the first to carry out the action they’ve placed and the humans then enacting theirs. For instance, if the T-Rex attacks someone during the card phase of the dinosaur turn, then the player uses the T-Rex ability to do 2 damage, it wasn’t clear whether it was 2 additional damage (over the 1 they inflicted when they entered the space) or just 1 more, for a total of 2. Since (s)he knows what the characters’ goals are (including activating the locations), it’s really easy to cut people off.
