About this deal

Throw in some nuclear powered Godzilla-type monsters and you are set for a romp through an alternate Earth. A predatory corporation on the Human Earth side (coincidentally led by Jamie's old boss Rob Sanders), in on the Kaiju secret, takes the opportunity to breach the barrier and move the Kaiju mother and her eggs to the Human side.

Tom has an urgent vacancy on his team: the pay is great and Jamie has debts – it’s a no-brainer choice. That said, I don’t want to give anyone the impression that the story was all superficial, because we have some superb characterization and great world-building ideas here too.

All in all a really good, geeky, sci fi, read that was a lot of fun that I really enjoyed that hooked me into the world but not too heavy. To that end, if you’ve ever read a Scalzi book then you are familiar with his cheeky writing style, fun plots, and quick-witted characters. Excessive dialogue is at the expense of delving into these characters’ inner lives, of showing moments of reflection as they try to come to grips with their fears, hesitations, disorientation, even homesickness--feelings all people would experience at some point working in a hazardous alien environment. Like all recent Scalzi fiction, the good underlying story is smothered by the larding on of his political causes.

The bad guy pretty much has 'bad guy' tattooed on his face, which is also absolutely fine because wow is his depiction and fate satisfying. In this overly long sequel, Violet, Xaden, and their dragons are determined to find a way to protect Navarre, despite the fact that the army and government hid the truth about these creatures.

I believe what makes The Kaiju Presevation Society so accessible is that although the majority of the characters are scientific experts in their given field, Niamh with astrology, Kahurangi with chemistry, and Aparna with biology, having Jamie, a labourer whose main job title is to “lift things'', made those characters have to explain certain theories to him in simple ways. Letta la versione kindle, è una storia assolutamente verosimile, che parte pre pandemia e si evolve con elementi fantascientifici assolutamente affascinanti.
