About this deal

The Amazfit Verge runs a proprietary OS, despite its capable hardware – dual core processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB storage (1.9GB user available). As with the Amazfit Bip before them, the Verge and Verge Lite are pretty compelling but their higher prices mean they’re a touch harder to recommend, especially given the strength of competition these days. That applies to the standard Verge especially. Now that the Garmin Vivoactive 3 can be had for a similar price, the chunky plastic style of Amazfit’s offering is a bit of a turn-off. Huami (a sub-brand of Xiaomi, and the name behind the Amazfit line) has confirmed that the watch will last for a single day on a full charge - it's a 420mAh cell - but we hope that estimate is on the conservative side, and that you won't have to charge the smartwatch up every night.

Amazfit Verge 2 is a budget running watch with an ECG monitor

"The "boom" and bubble of Huami's second quarter earnings report". iResearch. There are other smaller differences, too. The Verge has 4GB of on-board storage (although only about 1.9GB available to users), and the Lite only supports seven different exercises compared to its sibling’s 12 but that’s about it. Amazfit Verge and Verge Lite review: Price and competition Although it’s not a bad look as such, the design feels a bit more childlike than something you’d get from Samsung or Garmin. This isn’t helped by the rubbery wristband they come with, although you can snap these off via the release pins and replace with something more to your taste. Beware, though, a different strap might look a bit odd due to the way the bezel moulds into the top of the bands.

Amazfit is a Chinese smart wearable brand [2] established in September 2015 [3] and headquartered in Hefei. Its products are manufactured [4] and owned by Zepp Health. [5] The brand offers wearable devices including smartwatches, [6] fitness bands, [7] and equipment related to health and sports. [8] Then there are the extra features. The Amazfit Verge has a built-in microphone and speaker both for calls and a hidden talent: Alexa. This isn’t like the Fitbit Versa 2 where text answers appear when you ask a question – a tinny Alexa voice will provide answers straight from your watch’s speaker. What a time to be alive. In January 2020, it attended the Consumer Electronics Show 2020 in Las Vegas. [9] At the middle of October 2021, Amazfit updated its brand identity with the slogan "Up Your Game". [10] History [ edit ] In 2016, the first smartwatch of Amazfit was introduced. [11] In April 2017, it launched the Amazfit Health Band. [12]

Setting up the watch is also different, depending on which model you get. While the Verge uses the Amazfit app, the Verge Lite requires you to install Xiaomi’s Mi Fit app – the same one users of the Xiaomi Mi Band have to use. That isn’t a problem given the company clearly doesn’t expect you to own both watches but it’s an oddity all the same.Chan, Tim (January 13, 2020). "From 8K TVs to Stylish Smartglasses: The 11 Best Things We Saw at CES 2020". Robb Report. In July 2019, the lens of the photoelectric module of an Amazfit smartwatch dislodged, causing a user's skin to be burned. [15] There’s a built-in microphone and a loudspeaker so you can use the watch to accept incoming calls on your phone. There’s also the Xiao digital assistant, which can answer your questions.

There's 4GB of storage onboard for you to upload music for listening to on your runs, while the display is a 1.39-inch 454 x 454 AMOLED that will show all of your stats in an easy to read way. Xiaomi's Huami launches the Amazfit Verge, Health Band 1S and a new SoC in China". Firstpost. September 19, 2018. At the moment the Amazfit Verge 2 is only confirmed for Chinese markets; we've yet to learn a worldwide release date, although there's no guarantee the device will come to the UK, US or Australia. The screen is a circular 1.3-inch 360x360 AMOLED panel, slightly recessed within an IP68 water and dust resistant casing. The watch’s two-tone finish looks fun, pairing dark and light grey off against one another in the version we reviewed, with the rubber strap taking on the darker tone, keeping things classy.

Hedges, Lucy (11 Dec 2020). "The Lust List: new tech we want this week". Metro (British newspaper). Notifications aren’t handled brilliantly by the Verge Lite. While messages are perfectly readable on the crisp AMOLED screen, they have a tendency to bunch up. If you’re out and about and receive a WhatsApp message, you may just glance at it on your wrist and continue with your day. But if you receive a second one from a different conversation, the watch will show the first until you’ve actively dismissed it. There’s also, at the time of writing, a bug that means your watch will keep buzzing with the phone call notification even after you answer your phone. You can dismiss this but it’ll start buzzing again after you hang up, weirdly. It's also being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2500 chipset, which we've yet to see in any other device, so we can't be certain of how powerful it's going to be, although it should deliver enough power for the Amazfit Verge 2 to monitor your workouts. The operating system is also different, which is a bit weird for two smartwatch siblings. Amazfit says that the Verge uses the Amazfit OS, which is “based on Android system”. Presumably this means Wear OS but, alas, I can’t confirm that. The Verge Lite, meanwhile, uses the same OS found on the Bip, which would go a long way to explaining how it delivers such impressive battery life.

After the launch of Amazfit GTR series smartwatches, some problems were revealed, such as the screen was easy to be scratched and the positioning was severely shifted, which affected the usage. [16] You may consider these sacrifices worth making for the battery life and, for what it’s worth, Amazfit’s magic sauce is once again in evidence here. Over the duration of that 24-minute run with GPS switched on the Verge lost 3% of its battery, while the Lite lost just 2%. Amazfit says you can expect five days from the regular Verge or 20 days from the Lite and, if anything, these numbers may be selling both a tad short. Which is, obviously, hugely impressive. A self-developed chipset called the "Huangshan-1" [13] was exhibited at Mobile World Congress and applied to Amazfit devices in 2019. [14] Rubin, Ross (July 28, 2020). "Noise-canceling headphones that help you sleep through any snore". ZDNet. Interacting with the Verge is a tale of swipes and taps, and the story is illustrated with some fun graphics that visualize the weather and other UI elements. A handful of watch faces can also be accessed with a long press of the main screen, there’s a simple to navigate settings menu and when paired with an Android smartphone using Bluetooth, it can even act as a phone call receiver/speaker combo too.Singh, Kuwar (September 10, 2018). "Apple's early-generation smartwatch rules a market where the iPhone is struggling". Quartz. Not too much difference there, which is a good sign. I’m inclined to trust the Garmin Forerunner 245 of these, because it almost always comes within 0.05km of 5km at parkrun, although it’s possible it was overestimating. That would put both Amazfits slightly off the pace, but not catastrophically so.
