So everything turns out happily as Gadabout and Princess Pearl fly away on Zog to become the first of the flying doctors! Think about the forces that are taking place when Zog learns to fly, crashes into a tree and then falls down. With a love for dragons, and Donaldson's Gruffalo books, this was a guaranteed purchase when I found it! I liked them in the book but their personalities came to life on screen and I was more focused on their friendship developing through the years.

But Princess Pearl steps in and tells Gadabout that she doesn't want to be a princess, she wants to be a nurse and tend sick people.

Naturally I followed up by borrowing the book from the library, which solidified my love for these characters. The fairybook princess and rescuing knight both throw off their stereotypes and opt to become doctors. Zog’ (2010) by the prolific and highly accomplished team of Julia Donaldson (author) and Axel Scheffler (illustrator) – is another solid, reliable and above all else, fun story with the usual lovely accompanying illustrations.

In this much-loved picture book, a little mouse walks through the woods and encounters a fox, an owl and a snake. I used to memorise poems as a child and it means a lot to me when parents tell me their child can recite one of my books.I don't usually add children's books on Goodreads (except for the ones I read when I was a kid myself), but this one is just so adorable that I had to post it here.

I don't think this is really deserved as she willingly comes with him but I guess that's better than the alternative of a genuine kidnap. Perhaps the author believes all girls are princesses bit this saccharin sentiment seems at odds with the feminist message portrayed by the independent and strong willed Pearl.Lesson 5: To end the first week, we read the whole story for the first time and finished watching the film. She intervenes, stopping the fight and declaring she has no intention of going back to the palace to waste her life prancing around in frilly dresses. With all his misadventures he realises that it will be difficult to achieve his ambition to win a golden star. Despite his best efforts he is unsuccessful until the girl, now a young woman, offers to come with him revealing she is Princess pearl.

Lesson 4: ‘Catching a Princess’ - I took all the children to the hall and we played 'catch the princess' (stuck in the mud). Further weeks on Zog were then based around innovation - changing the story to be about different mythical creatures attending school. The illustrations are as vivid, imaginative and amusing as you would expect from the illustrator of The Gruffalo, with subtle details that children and adults will love.This home learning activity pack is based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s magical storybook Zog. He requires a plaster for his head and a little girl comes out of the woods to tend to his injuries . Zog is proud and happy and the princess proves to be most useful in that she looks after the dragons whenever they are sick. A Christmas viewing treat for all the family from four-time Oscar-nominated production company Magic Light Pictures. We then created a whole class re-telling just using actions (which we later performed in a class assembly to the school).
