About this deal

I prefer the Brachs brand if you can find them. They are always good quality and you won’t often find a lot of broken candy in the box.

Melt the chocolate: To melt the chocolate, use the double boiler method or do the following. Add chocolate to a medium, microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 10-second increments until just softened—the chocolate will continue to melt a bit after heating, be careful not to overheat. Stir in between heating increments, until smooth. Use a small spoon or a piping bag to add melted chocolate to the inside of the cooled candy cane hearts. If you don’t have any wrapping paper or cellophane, use a large jam jar or other airtight container to store your Christmas candy sweets. The humidity in your house will make them eventually softer, but they will keep for a few days. Why not stay in touch…Immediately after removing the candy from the oven, pinch any open ends together to create a closed heart shape.

The most surprising part of making these was that when candy canes melt, they get stringy, kind of like cheese. I tried using a fork to press them together when they first came out of the oven, because I was worried about burning my fingers, but the fork just pushed right into the candy cane, and when I pulled it out, it brought tiny melted strings along with it. This is a great way to use up broken candy canes that are in too many pieces to use for the hearts. Step 4: Melt Your ChocolatesDecorating your home for Christmas is such an exciting and magical time. How about making it even more special by creating your own ornaments to hang up this year? Dying coconut is really easy. All you will need is a sealed baggie and food dye. For this project you wouldn’t need a lot of coconut, perhaps 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup for each color, depending upon how many you made. You could make extra and use it for other Valentine’s Day treats! To make, add coconut to your baggie and drop 2 to 3 drops of food dye. Seal it shut and shake it well until all the coconut is evenly colored. Fun project to make for your upcoming holiday party! These are thin peppermint hearts made from candy canes! Supplies for candy cane hearts: Our little Twinkl tip is some of these heart decorations are not only limited to Christmas. Valentine's Day is around the corner and is the perfect opportunity to either make these crafts with your kids or display the heart-themed crafts they have already made. It’s easiest to work with candy canes that are in two pieces (any more than 3 pieces and it’s too difficult

These DIY candy cane hearts come at the perfect time. If you have leftover candy canes from the holidays, now you can find a new use for them. But you can also use them for Christmas too. Place a heat-safe bowl over the top of the saucepan. Make sure the bottom of the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Christmas sprinkles: red, white and green sprinkles look lovely on these, but you could use whatever festive sprinkles you like, or even some chopped-up candy canes. How to make candy cane hearts There are two ways to melt chocolate for bark: double boiler or microwave. I used a double boiler to melt both the white and semi sweet chocolate for these peppermint bark hearts, but you can learn all you need to know about how to melt chocolate right here. Step 5: Add the chocolate to the inside of the candy cane heartsAfter few minutes the sugar starts to dissolve, but if you test it with a wooden spoon, you can still see sugar crystals that are not fully dissolved. Keep it on very low heat and wait a little longer until all is dissolved. First of all mix all the ingredients (apart from the colour and peppermint extract) in to a medium size pan and put on a very low heat. Use your fingers to pinch together the bottoms to close the bottom of the hearts. This was a little hot on the hands, but it wasn’t too bad: While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle a few bits of crushed candy cane on top for a pretty effect.

The first time this shape was used as a symbol of love was in a 1250 French manuscript of the Roman de le poir.Make sure that they are no sugar crystals on the side of the pan, by brushing them down with pastry brush dipped into hot water. Line a medium baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. Clear some room in the refrigerator for this sheet. Set aside. Lay two mini candy canes next to each other, creating a heart. Continue filling the baking sheet with heart shapes. Once the joins have been pushed together, leave them to cool for 15 minutes. Once they are cool, tie ribbon around them and hang them on your tree.
