One of our hosts in India gave us a cooking lesson and we subsequently baked fresh chapattis on a daily basis. Just set up this oven, pop it over the burner of your existing Coleman stovetop, fire it up and you’ll be ready to bake.

As long as you have it set up correctly, it’s easy to get to the temperature you need and regulate it. Christa pointed out while you can’t find whole-wheat flour, salvado de trigo is a common product, which is the husk of the wheat.Because of this, I recommend placing the oven on your stove prior to cooking food to “season” the aluminum. The second point to make is that the temperature maxed out at 200°C in those conditions and that's on one of the most powerful burners around. I'm trying to think of a suitable insulating thin sheet material that could be paired with the original oven panels? If I had known about the Coleman camp oven, I might have purchased one of those (and the companion propane camp stove) instead. This oven is made from smooth corrosion-resistant aluminised steel which is easy to clean and resists scuffs and corrosion.

I then can use the Dutch oven for many other cooking chores including over coals outside, or frying meats and eggs on inside of it’s non stick lid on stove or over fire. We haven’t been in touch with much Dutch oven users and while we have tried some basic pot-in-a-campfire recipes, we have opted for a pressure cooker [ours is also anodized!The door has a little red knob that turns to close the door and ensure that it remains closed during cooking. Not to be contrarian or anything, I’ve wanted one of these ovens to complete my kit for a while now.

The aren't collapseable like the Coleman oven but they are twin skinned so the temperature is more controllable. As a practical matter I’m trying to envision a situation where I could or would have a camp oven along yet not have a cast iron dutch oven.

Some of you have seen the image on our Instagram: our first homemade bread, fresh from our brand-new Coleman Camp Oven. The indicated temps were fluctuating between 325-350F despite cook time on the packaging requiring 13-17 min at 375F. I recommend purchasing an oven thermometer and placing it inside to get a more accurate temperature reading. We got fed up doing that every morning and the whole plan was abolished after a couple of weeks or months.
