I'm glad I gave this a second chance, usually if I don't like a perfume on the first try, I often just add it to my sell/swap list straight away (big mistake, I know), but I tried this one a second time months after receiving it through a swap, and now I'm loving it, and have quickly removed it from the swap list and displayed it on my perfume stand.

I wanted to love this, but i sadly present an unpopular opinion that this was quite nauseating for me. It is very warm and tonka bean vanilla based which is one of my favorites in fragrances I love TONKA BEAN. As much as I love vanilla notes in perfumes, often they can turn dusty, plasticky, or piercing-sharp on my chemistry, but Midnight Shimmer stays realistic, and quite foody, which I very much enjoy! I smell similarities to The 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods but replace the noticeable woody smokey note in that one with a woody moss note.This beauty was recommended to me by a sales assistant who thought i would like it as it seemed we had the same taste. I became curious with this scent when I saw a review by Ami of Fragrance with Ami, a fellow Aussie, who just loved this one.

I might be more sensitive to this because of my design background but I can’t help but think this was a missed opportunity. When it arrived and I sprayed it on my skin, I don’t think I’ve ever been more disappointed because it is actually THE MOST GENERIC vanilla I have ever smelt. And heck yes to the Kors team for giving us a bottle with a lid that actually snaps tight into place.

I don't know if I have a fake one because I bought it online but on me it just doesn't smell at all after less that an hour. Brilliant refreshing Once again Michael Kors has outdone himself with this new alluring fragrance midnight Shimmer. I was shocked to see a bottle of this at the perfumery across the street from my apartment building.

Since Cologne of the Missions is so expensive now I’d say you are better off grabbing a bottle of this since it’s still somewhat reasonable in comparison and it definitely performs better on my skin then Nirvana Bourbon. The drydown is beautiful ''dry'' jasmine, which makes me think of old school makeup - the way old rouges, powders and lipsticks used to smell. The final dry down is a soft, unsweetened, waxy vanilla that is odd and somewhat unpleasant on my skin. What a relief to find this whimsical and delicate scent after all the intense fruity, overwhelming fragrances I've settled for lately. However, as other reviewers have mentioned, this doesn't really have any sillage or projection at all.BTW this smells very similar to Sublime eau de parfum by Jean Patou (the older lotus shaped bottle). Midnight Shimmer is a “sparkling and captivating fragrance that promises to illuminate the evening", with a rich, woody composition as "the perfect finishing touch before a glamorous night out.
