About this deal

Her work is extremely diverse, covering aspects of magic realism, suspense, historical fiction, mythology and fantasy. In The Lollipop Shoes, Vianne and her two daughters Anouk and Rosette, are now running a Chocolaterie located on a cobbled street of Montmatre; the last village in Paris. Her hobbies are listed in Who’s Who as ‘mooching, lounging, strutting, strumming, priest-baiting and quiet subversion’.

She lives for her daughters, but is secretly afraid of other relationships, preferring to flee rather than settle down and face the possibility of rejection. Following my trip to Paris and in anticipation of Joanne Harris’s forthcoming novel, Peaches for Monsieur le Cure, I decided to re-read The Lollipop Shoes, the follow-up to Harris’s wonderful Chocolat. The Wind quite simply represents destiny, something which tells Vianne to leave a place even though she never wants to, and this is why she fears it. Even if it doesn’t match the caliber of the former one, but still as a standalone book if you consider, it is as good. In some ways this is better than Chocolat from a conventional story telling point of view, but being a sequel, lacks the vitality of Vianne's debut.

But beneath their new friend’s benevolent facade lies a ruthless treachery–for devious, seductive Zozie has plans that will shake their world to pieces. Ir tikrai, palikus tik pastarąją, būtų galima išvengti pagrindinių problemų: nuspėjamumo, ploktumo ir ištęstumo. Vianne Rocher, now with two daughters, Anouk and Rosette, has forsaken magic and adventure for a monotonous life running a small chocolaterie in the Montmartre district of Paris.

There are lots of twists and turns (more than the first one) which would keep a reader engaged and keep on turning the pages. As a character who has few words and mostly sits in the background being a child, she comes across as observant with a strong presence. Four years on from the events in 'Chocolat', Vianne Rocher is now living a quiet life in the Paris suburb of Montmartre with her children Annie (Anouk) and 4 year old Rosette.I wanted to shake them and slap them until they could see what was happening and how wrong everything was. As Zozie reveals some of the things she has done to her victims in the past, I found myself really concerned for Vianne's family, who are only trying to live a quiet life. I said it before: Joanne Harris has a way of pulling you in and not letting go until you've finished to book.

She is the author of many other bestselling novels, including Lollipop Shoes, Peaches for Monsieur le Cure, and The Strawberry Thief, all also featuring Vianne Rocher. I loved all the references to the Kindly Ones, who the central characters sometimes paralleled: the maiden, the mother, and the crone. The second installment in Harris’ ‘Chocolat’ series, she continues her tale of Vianne Rocher who, travels from far and wide as she is chased by the wind. and is currently engaged in a number of musical theatre projects as well as developing an original drama for television. The novel as a stand alone book, works well, it’s an easy read with nothing particularly difficult to understand, but as the second novel of a pre-established book it’s a bit too easy of a read. Had you checked my review of the prequel to The Lollipop Shoes or otherwise named as The Girl with No Shadow, i. Its long-awaited sequel, The Lollipop Shoes, presses yet more buttons in the shape of a pair or red velvet slingbacks. Again, I can't give more details without spoilers, but trust me, there were a few times when I said to myself 'Wait, I thought THIS was the way things were in that village at the end, not THAT'. It gives us the back story on characters we know and love, which also introducing one of the most unreliable and compelling narrators I think I've ever come across.

Appearing in the guise of a child-friendly adult – irresistible in jangling jewels and ruby slippers – Zozie tiptoes her way into the young girl's affections.Suzanne once a friend of Anouk, she abandoned her to be part of the popular crowd, and is now one of Anouk's principal tormentors. She is the author of several other bestsellers, including The Lollipop Shoes, Peaches for Monsieur Le Curé and The Strawberry Thief. Jeane-Loup miraculously figures out the mystery regarding Zozie, a teenage boy, as opposed to a learned witch.
