Greeted with a gin and tonic on arrival, you’ll follow the fascinating story of the Jensen’s brand, and the time-honoured processes and recipes that make their small-batch gins so special. Further investigation led Christian to discover that Old Tom gins were rarely sweetened at the distillery but rather drinking establishments would often 'stretch' the gin further by adding water, sugar and extra spices to beef up barrels of gin.

The Bermondsey Gin Company was established in 2004 with Christian Jensen's voyage of discovery in vintage gins beginning in his neighbourhood bar in Tokyo. The building is in an arch under the railway so lots of atmosphere and appreciated the blanket as it was cold inside.Next you will be shown around the Still Room, with a visual explanation of how Bermondsey make their gin, before being guided through samples of both expressions of the Jensen’s portfolio.

You may know Old Tom gins for being sweeter than the usual dry gin and that is certainly the case here with the Bermondsey Old Tom. Will not readily appeal to those who are attracted by fancy labels and fancy bottles, which seems ro be the majority of gin drinkers these days. The gin also has a delicate floral and citrus note that adds an extra layer of complexity to its flavour profile. The information given during the tasting and tour was excellent and lighthearted making it great fun.As an alternative to tonic, combine our Bermondsey Dry with Fentimen’s Rose Lemonade, lemon wheels and plenty of ice. Charlie was very informative and funny, and gave a great insight into the history behind gin generally and how Jensen’s came into existence. We all sat down a round table and she talked all about the history of gin and the story behind Jensens gin how it’s made etc. Towards the end of the taste, there’s a subtle licorice note as well which adds a perceived sweetness and softness. A fantastic experience not to miss out on at a neat little gin distillery not far from central London.

Jensen's Bermondsey Gin is a London dry gin that is made using traditional gin botanicals along with a solid core of juniper. We were hosted by Helga who was lovely and really knowledgeable and made the whole experience a lot of fun!
