About this deal

Iron War really is a book that should be on your bookshelf if you have even the slightest interest in the sport of triathlon, but it also is a great read for anyone looking for inspiration in general.

His byline appears regularly in national publications including Men's Journal, Outside, and Women's Running. Sintetizada pela famosa frase do triatleta Wolfgang Dittrich, citado na obra: "Para vencer o Ironman, você deve ter preparo físico e mental. Iron War delves into the vastly different personalities and psyches of these two iconic athletes and presents an anatomy of mental toughness that both men shared. It shows true grit, competition, fierceness, determination and creates the sensation of hot lava creating heat waves around you.To those of my fellow early adopters who take issue with the idea that our demons were the ants in our pants that drove us, you have short memories.

From ducttaping feet to the pedals to eating Twix's and baby food, everything was experimental back then. While Fitzgerald absolutely did not convince me this was the greatest race ever, nor even in the top ten, this is a good read for anyone who is a fan of endurance racing of any variety. For over a decade, Dave Scott and Mark Allen were locked in one of the fiercest rivalries sport has ever known.

And if there's one public activity where a professional can truly say, "I didn't sign up for this," it's certainly triathlon or, at least, it was in the early 80s. I agree with the author's conclusion: you cannot read a book, study the the training methods of the experts and replicate them and one day expect to find yourself winning or even being professionally competitive in something like the Ironman.

Often dubbed the “greatest race ever run,” Iron War is the name given to the epic duel that took place between Dave Scott and Mark Allen at the 1989 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. He did, of course, sprinting so hard he opened up a gap of about 20 yards over the course of 15 seconds.com (October, 2011) "Iron War is the very first time our sport has engaged in Krakauer-style journalism, where full-featured personalities are presented to readers without excuse, or pause, or an author's self-censorship. Although I think my being an active age group triathlete helps to make the book more interesting than it would be to someone who has never been kicked in the face during an open water swim! I did a ten mile run shortly after reading this chapter and I was able to push myself that little bit harder and clocked a great time.

I suspect many of us who were in triathlon's vanguard have personalities that sit somewhere along the psychological gradient. The epic battle between Dave Scott and Mark Allen at the 1989 Ironman World Championship is considered one of the greatest races of all time—but both racers had less than ideal preparations going into that race. com "In his new book Iron War , Fitzgerald recounts in gripping detail the showdown between Mark Allen and Dave Scott. the general story of Scott and Allen was good, the extra garbage about who was thinking what when you couldn't know, failing to acknowledge that Allen would have received several penalties on the iron war day had all the stuff from the story been true, blaming the fathers for everything, it was too much, poor, poor trod upon typical America cry baby stuff throughout the book. He knew when I took downtime from training that I had an uncanny ability to overeat and gain weight. If you’re looking for inspiration to get you started on base training for the spring/summer seasons, check it out.
