About this deal

Monty Don's articles are so well founded, his enthusiasm is contagious and his advice is invaluable. A lot of gardening books are written from the perspective of teaching the right way to do things and feel quite strict and a little scary for new gardeners. Seasonably cold with temperatures somewhere between -10 and + 5 centigrade, is healthy for the garden and makes life easier for us gardeners. The book starts with an introduction to Longmeadow, with Monty describing how it was a complete blank canvas of farmyard and fields when they first moved there and how he has tried to create a garden that works with nature and sits happily in the landscape.

It will inspire you to achieve a balanced, healthy garden of your own, one that’s spilling with produce and full colour all year round. He has written a number of books about his gardens and gardens around the world, and also one about his Golden Retriever Nigel, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 11. A firm favourite with viewers, Monty’s infectious enthusiasm for plants, attention to the finer details of gardening technique and easy charm have seen the ratings soar.

The Jewel garden really hits its stride in August and September despite the shortening days because the nights are warm and dahlias, bananas, zinnias, tithonia, sunflowers, helianthus, nicotiana and cosmos are flowering exuberantly. A simple pavilion is at the far end that is shaded from the sun but looks out over the whole garden and down through the Orchard beds. Monty Don invites you into Longmeadow, a place that has become synonymous with Gardener’s World, to show how he creates and tends his own garden, and how you can bring some of that same magic to our own.You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I have liked Monty Don since he wrote a column in the Guardian years and years ago… several of his books have caught my eye, including a recipe book!

What began as an act of homage, almost an academic exercise, has become an important and much loved part of the garden. It was made as a celebration of all the good things relating to our jewellery business in the 1980’s and all the colours are jewellery or metallic in some way and the tone just like the 1980’s - brash, extravagant and high maintenance! This means that we eat seasonally as well as use the greenhouse and cloches to protect plants and also plan our succession very carefully so that as one crop comes to an end there are young plants already growing strongly to replace them, either of the same variety or an alternative type according to the season. I would certainly recommend this book, Monty’s enthusiasm is infectious and you don’t need to watch Gardeners’ World to find this book useful and a good read. Perennials PERENNIALS constant friends A selection of novels, memoirs and more by some of our favourite authors. But beneath years of neglect was a blank canvas that I could fill with the garden of my dreams…’Monty Don invites you into Longmeadow, a place that has become synonymous with Gardener’s World, to show how he creates and tends his own garden, and how you can bring some of that same magic to our own. In my opinion, it isn’t a book to turn to for quick reference or if you’re looking for lists of tasks to do but then it wasn’t designed with this in mind and most gardeners have those books already anyway.

I consider myself to be an experienced gardener now but I still take great pleasure in looking to Monty’s books and TV programmes for inspiration and ideas. It is also the season of fruitfulness with the orchard providing over 50 different varieties of apples and the vegetable garden offering its final rich summer harvest. Please get in touch and we will do our best to source your book, no matter how unusual or specialist. Part of Monty Don’s garden is dedicated to wildlife, and this pond is intended as a habitat for insects, frogs and birds.Describing the magic of each area at different times of the year, Monty will explain the basics of what to do when and how to get the most from each plant. badge_secondary": "1rem", "badge_average_score": "2rem", "reviews_card_secondary_font_size": "1rem", "star_summary_reviewsnum_font_size": "1.
