About this deal

The band note Europe as an ongoing inspiration for the new LP; "from the beauty of the Renaissance to the savagery of many wars, the highs and lows have been there as an ongoing and ever evolving influence.

Co-written with Hugh Cornwell, this last track has a distinctly different feel to the rest of the album displaying a more wistful side to Jobson’s songwriting.Collaborating with incredible artists like Youth, Hugh Cornwall and Martin Metcalfe - all fans of the band. In March 2024 Destination Dusseldorf will be repressed on Transparent Ochre Vinyl in a limited run of 250. There’s nothing very specific in the lyrics as Jobson urges; ‘Look at the world around you, realise the dreams, got to fight for the answers, open your eyes and see’, but it’s a pretty safe bet which enemies this particular politicised Scot is drawing our attention to. But then the wheels come off the wagon with the arty "Things We've Seen", what were they thinking, this is nil pointe horrible and one I'll be skipping in future, enough said. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. We also do not accept products that are intimate or sanitary goods, hazardous materials, or flammable liquids or gases. All purchases of either the LP or CD will receive a free DL which includes the track "Greatest Prize". Tidal Wave, the first of several songs written in collaboration with Matin Metcalfe, follows in a similar vein with a powerful chorus and earnest words foretelling momentous changes on the horizon. This is a more introspective track which mirrors the toll that the sheer longevity of Jobson’s career must take; ‘On and on and on it goes, don’t stop, do it again’.For a while, the Skids, founded by the great and sadly missed Stuart Adamson in 1977, shone very brightly in the early punk / new wave firmament.

Third track "Don't Stop" comes roaring out of the blocks but then has a change of direction and becomes kind of arty in a Bowiesque rocking way, its ok but after that wonderful start I can't help but feel it could have been better. Here We Go, How To Be Free and Wings Of Desire follow in similar anthemic fashion before Things We’ve Seen, a haunting and atmospheric trek across Europe full of nostalgia and regret, brings things to a close. It is a real shame, because Great Prize is a crackerjack of a song with a top notch vocal arrangement. Coming across like some deranged motivational speaker, our budding wordsmith is clearly a man in a hurry on this hilariously awful but curiously infectious album (and the last one wasn't exactly Bob Dylan.I was 15 and had never really fell for Punk, I mean I'd been listening largely to Prog for the previous 12 months. Tidal Wave" that follows is better, bigger and closer to the Skids Braveheart "In Tae Tha Vallea" style of punk sophistication, this is a real contender for the best track here crown. The more rocking, more complex, more punky "Wings Of Desire" that follows is another cracker and one I want to see live when the Skids support From The Jam later this year; and at about this point on this my third or fourth listening I'm changing my original opinion that "Destination Dusseldorf" isn't as good as "Burning Cities".
