About this deal

Emmett and Cara’s change of heart about supporting the relationship came out of the blue for reasons which weren’t clear. The desirability of a central male character doesn’t always have to be stressed to the same degree in a YA (it’s not always a big part of what the reader will zero in on), and even when it does, it’s usually not framed in a “marriage material” / “eligible bachelor” way, so how popular a sport played by a main character who is also an athlete is, or how much money that character earns from their sporting career is isn’t as crucial either, unless that’s a primary focus of the plot. I should have framed my first comment on this topic more clearly; I was responding to Kaetrin’s comment about the earnings of the highest-paid NHL player versus players in other sports, so I was thinking in terms of the NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, and NHL. Hot hockey player, the male MC falls first and it had room for some good drama in there because of his ‘player’ status as a famous wealthy athlete.

The way that he fell so hard for Olivia and acted like the cutest lost puppy begging for scraps of her attention was the best thing I’ve ever read. When my kids were little, the questions I got from other parents were, Are you putting your son in hockey? Olivia Parker isn’t new to professional hockey players, thanks to her best friend’s boyfriend, but she has no interest in dating one herself—no matter how hot he is. In fact, I strongly believe criminally horny men who never had hoes will jump at the first opportunity to cheat because they can't believe someone else is actually interested in them.

She wants everything to be perfect and to be exactly how she wants it and only then can she be satisfied. It also is one of those books that the couple gets together rather early on and we see their relationship grow, which I've seen some requests lately for books where we get more page time of couples being couples rather than the back and forth of will they-won't they. I have enjoyed some a lot (I’m counting the days until our review of The Long Game runs), even though I have no interest whatsoever in hockey outside of my romance reading. The runtime is also prohibitive, because 20 hours means you’ll be listening for AT LEAST two days, probably more. Kaetrin: I grew up in England and Maltesers (along with Cadbury Flake bars) were fixtures of my childhood. So, unfortunately, I will not be adding anymore books by this author to my Kindle or Audible anytime soon.

it honestly could have finished around 50% with courtney being the main conflict and them dealing with it and then done. Too bad for him, Olivia is hell-bent on keeping him at arm’s length, with no intention of giving into his charms. If that’s what it was, then that needs to be explained, because my brain cannot picture a way that “holding her down by the throat” isn’t the beginning of a horror snuff book.Regarding popularity of sport and the representation of hockey in romance, the author of this book is Canadian so I expect that played into it as well. Becka enjoys writing swoon-worthy romances with lovable and relatable characters, loads of humor, and a healthy dose of drama on the way to a happily ever after. They were thrown in similar situations in the beginning of the book and towards the end and you can TOTALLY see their growth through how they handle it. And it was a sizzling + sweet, charming + cute, warm + swoony brick by brick beautiful journey as their hard won steps forward.

Like 600 pages long and after reading 200 pages, I feel like I should be somewhere past the second half of the story but no. The amount of times we had to listen to the female MC, Olivia, long for sweat pants, or to lounge around the house with no bra on, was ridiculous. I gather that you got your start in fan fiction and/or on Wattpad and there’s a sense here of that feels-based episodic story common to those platforms. you share in their weaknesses, their blossoming feelings, their torn emotions, their crossroads, their strengths and their hard-won love. I understand I can change my preference through my account settings or unsubscribe directly from any marketing communications at any time.

Becka is a steamy romance author, self-proclaimed sarcasm queen, professional procrastinator, and a superfan of dragging her readers through hell and back on the way to a happy ending. Sure, he may be pretty, but he’s also a walking, talking reminder for you to wrap it before you tap it. it has been stated, multiple times, that he is only, or at least all the more, interested in her because she doesn't want to be with him.
