If we're visiting a well-known site such as a spot along Hadrian's Wall, this map is handy for showing what else is around that's earlier and therefore not mentioned in the Roman guides.

Surrounding the map are numerous panels providing further information including contact details of relevant organizations, photos, drawings and profiles, a glossary of archaeological terms, a chronological table placing British events in a wider historical context, reading recommendations, etc. I just wish they would produce these maps on a smaller scale so they could fit in the little not so significant places but they still might be of interest.What I have found is that I have spent a great deal of time studying this map and its fascinating historical information. Ancient Britain’s sites, monuments and related museums overprinted on a large, double-sided present day map of the country at 1:625,000 from the Ordnance Survey, plus numerous panels, maps and photos providing extensive additional information. Otherwise, you're going to find that it's a great map, easy to read and inspiring you to travel to the less-known sites only the intrepid will see. K. The grid intervals are at 10km intervals so you can quickly determine a location down to that resolution and if required estimate to 1km. It would probably be better suited to electronic publishing, where you could choose to switch on and off different information, to give you clearer views of what you were looking for.

Many panels describing important archaeological remains are accompanied by extracts from OS Landranger maps at 1:50,000 showing their exact location. Symbols arranged according to the period (Palaeo/Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze, Iron, Roman, and Medieval to 1066) and use (civil, defence, domestic, industrial, religious/ritual, and funerary/burial) show locations of the sites. The map has been produced by Ordnance Survey in collaboration with the Ancient Monument Trusts of England, Scotland and Wales, so as to provide an authoritative map of the historical sights of Great Britain. The location of the monuments is highlighted by displaying archaeological details against a modern map base.

The historical map and guide is complemented by a timeline that shows British events in relation to wider world history. Bronze age information in orangey brown is not strikingly evident in the hills, which are also orangey brown.
