The OEX Phoxx 2 (version 2) is a budget two-person tent that I purchased earlier this year (2023) and so far I’ve taken it out on five trips, including two nights in horrendous mountain weather with gale-force winds.

I won’t be using this tent in the winter as the vents would let in too much cold air, but for summer use, the vents adequately remove moisture and heat from the tent. They also receive good reviews; the Jackal seems to always come out with the best ones from what I’ve seen. So when it came to wanting to share the experience I instantly went for the Phoxx 2 as a cheap solution for my next budget shelter. It has a two pole design and the outer being pitched first makes it practical when the rain is falling.Space and comfort: I’m 6ft 2, and even though the tent has a low profile, I found it fairly wide – certainly enough to accommodate one person and possessions or two people with bags left outside the tent. I have share with another person on two occasions and have found there isn’t much space left inside the main sleeping area once the mats and sleeping bags are down. The Bobcat tent is a whole kilogram lighter and there are many two man options, which weight less as well. You’ve got your twin vestibules over side, so you’ve got plenty of room for school in twin zips, with a zip on the inside, and the outside seems to be sagging a bit.
On second use, knowing what to do, the thing went up in 15 minutes (aside from the accursed porch pole) but I still felt that it should just feel easier.

A simple solution is to tie the lines in a knot directly to the peg so the tensioner isn’t used at all. Many of the folk I love watching on the internet almost appear to have a different one for each day of the week. Eventually I managed to get the second pole in (after taking the thing down, swapping the poles, failing, taking it down again, putting the poles back the other way again and forcing the poles together) and got the shape of the thing.
