About this deal

I went to see Bowie with two mates expecting to see the bloke from Hunky Dory - ie with long yellow hair and maybe a dress. He disliked flying and took trains and boats, interacting with others and observing the world around him. A very consciously created persona by Bowie that was representative of the celebrity cycle of a rockstar. In 2002, David Bowie and Mick Rock created Moonage Daydream, the defining document of the life and times of Ziggy Stardust. It is printed in the same large format as the sold-out limited edition of 2002 (350mm x 250mm / 13 ¾" x 9 ¾"), and, at 328 pages in length, the new book reintroduces material cut from the hardback printing of 2005.Rock is best remembered for taking iconic and immersive images of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Syd Barrett, Iggy Pop, Queen, the Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Blondie and many others. This book took me back to the 11 year old school boy and is a must for a Bowie fan, or even for the mildly curious. When I was a young man, in the early Seventies, I had several cheap trade paperbacks what were essentially picture profiles of rock sensation David Bowie. I'm a big fan of Bowie and i'm really into Photography so this was a good read, and i really enjoyed all the amazing picture's.

I really liked Bowie's forthrightness sharing his creative process and influences from friends, Japanese designers, Kubrick, and other musicians. David Bowie's sharp, often humorous text discusses the origins of this fascinating stage persona, comments on Mick Rock's photographs, and overall gives unprecedented insight into Ziggy's stratospheric two-year career. There is some markings to the base of the box with some marking and very slight peeling to the sticker on the front of the box. Alongside over 600 photographs taken by Mick Rock, Bowie’s personal and often humorous commentary gives unprecedented insight into his work and the creation of his most memorable persona. We had a black and white television and read Melody Maker and NME, therefore David was not usually available in full colour.During the entire book one cannot slip the feeling of Bowie being an icon in so many ways, staying humble through his own words, debunking myths (once as "tosh") and glorifying the people who helped him to garb, make-up and generally help him in a variety of ways, not least Mick Ronson and Mick Rock. He is laid bare with some incredible images from both on stage and behind the scenes, alongside informative, humorous and interesting comments. Exclusively for Genesis subscribers, for a limited time, a short run of books are being presented as Publisher's Copies.
