About this deal

so yeah this will be about as good as it gets for the average M4/3 user that isn't springing for an f1. Fortunately, unlike with some other Panasonic lenses on Oly bodies, this does not seem to pop up in normal, day-time photography (at least not in normal conditions).

I think the variability was horrible on these, and m4/3 lenses in general were not very impressive, sadly. We shoot both images using the default JPEG settings and manual white balance of our test bodies, so the images should be quite consistent from lens to lens. The diaphragm comprises seven rounded blades, allowing the aperture to remain circular at larger f-numbers, which usually gives a more attractive quality to the background blur. With the latest cameras, it will also continue to do so in remarkably low light without hunting back and forth for focus position. We're as guilty as anyone of getting excited about shiny new gear and features, but let's not lose sight of the gear we already have by our side.Credit is provided by Novuna Personal Finance, a trading style of Mitsubishi HC Capital UK PLC, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Good sharpness even side open over most of the image area, with some softness and fringing in the corners until you stop down around a stop and a half. equivalent implies that any photo taken will be a little more than two stops darker than a photo taken with an f1.

You can leave it off without affecting the use of the lens, but it does square off the front quite neatly. With the joy expressed when we deciphered the most basic command you would think we had just split an atom. But this chunky yet competent backpack doesn't have a killer feature or look that makes it stand out from some pretty tough competition.

While there is probably some post-processing going on under the hood of our Panasonic GX1 test camera, chromatic aberration is well-controlled in this lens/camera combination. The Panasonic has lower distortion, of course, but that’s expected, and all three suffer from high levels of chromatic aberration. This lens can be used for video and photography and will appeal to shooters wanting to keep the weight down and the quality high. It is very easy to induce quite obvious flare, creating image artefacts and also reducing contrast to a soft haze.

There's no optical stabilization, though this shouldn't matter for the vast majority of shooters, as almost all modern Micro Four Thirds bodies have internal IS. Hi BostonC, the performance score is lower due to the poor flare performance, which means any bright light sources in the frame could cause a problem, as can be seen in the image titled "Flare Test" . If it weren’t for the Panasonic’s astigmatism, sharpness in the outer field would be greatly improved. after a joint venture with DXOMark then don't know what happened to their relationship, lens review has less technical data. If you shoot videos, you’ll find that the stepping motor delivers fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus operation.
