About this deal

In a sense, belongings are an extension of the self: who we were in the past, who we are now, and who we want to be in the future. I would send a copy of this book to my mother now if I thought she would actually read it and not just lose it in the house.

She was eager and ambitious but: What shocked me now was the discovery that, the more I became recognised as a serious young woman who was aiming high - whose long-term aspirations went beyond a mere subservient role - the more violently I was resented and the more implacably I was kept in my place. Had I read this before reading Making Space Clutter Free: The Last Book on Decluttering You Will Ever Need I know my rating would be higher. Let It Go’ introduces Lord Peterssen who was appointed as regent in her stead until she came of age, and he’s a welcome ally while Elsa is dealing with the deplorable Duke of Weselton and scheming Prince Hans.We downsized from two homes to one years ago when I had an infant, and I could not deal with sorting through everything at that time, so my current house is not only cluttered with the extras from that consolidation, but also all the new stuff that comes with having kids.

He was very high on what today we consider a spectrum as he lost all ability to speak and his behaviour became extremely challenging. I notice that some other reviewers say that her description of how she steered and grew her company from a small cottage startup to huge software consultancy business was the least interesting part of this book. How to say no to things you don’t want and also how to think about what kind of mess you might leave for your own children one day. Or maybe a parent has died or needs to move into a smaller home, and you have to sort through family possessions and decide what to keep.

The biggest revelation for me was that objects you own can either reflect the image you want to present to the world (and/or your closest family and friends) or they can reflect something opposite to your intent. My grievance with the last Peter Walsh book I read was that he just said to throw things away, whereas here he goes into a little more detail in regards to steps to take before reaching that point. To those feeling trapped with no one to turn to, meet the Let It Go Journal - your go-to tool for unburdening and releasing pent-up emotions. Dame Stephanie Shirley is one of Britain's leading philanthropists and has donated most of her life to helping good causes, especially those close to her heart. Collectively, the great cargo of items that we accumulate and carry with us through life constitutes our material convoy.

In steering listeners through all the common-sense considerations, such as making decisions, dividing belongings, and estimating what will fit in a new home, Furlong adopts a measured, mellow tone.

Some of the objects in our homes might feel like intruders because they’re so heavily marked by their previous owners. But with these challenges comes a great opportunity to start anew—if you'll just let yourself do it. As we move through different stages in life’s journey, we pick up a few material hitchhikers along the way. I am mid-stream in my down-sizing, was never a hoarder, but even people with neat and tidy homes have too much stuff.
