About this deal

Beautiful and unexpected … both thought-provoking and life-affirming’ Sunday Express --This text refers to the hardcover edition. I started this book with the intention of reading a few pages before bed but ended up being completely enthralled in the story and almost finished it in one night. After completing a degree in Journalism and Media Communications, Cecelia wrote her first novel at 21 years old. This book was an unforgettable sojourn into the very depth of human emotions and dynamic characters.

While I generally know what I’ll get from a Cecelia Ahern book, in a thousand different ways took me surprise, in the best way. I never read blurbs, if the title catches me, cover catches me or it’s one of my favourite authors I’ll read it. It felt a bit like a mega serial (soap opera) with an extraordinary person since the mini-events happened to be nothing life changing or from a novel form story line altering. That is the one thing I really didn’t like about this book the jumping about with no warning it was very hard to keep up with.We meet Alice as a child, and follow her as she experiments and adapts with her gift; I could not agree more with the likeness of Alice to a superhero. A beautiful and despairing story that really made me reflect on moments from my own life and present interactions through a coloured magnifying glass. Alice has to come to terms with her gift, she can read a person, so this comes in handy as it keeps her and others safe, she’s also blessed with a green thumb and it opens lots of unexpected opportunities for her. She and her books have won numerous awards, including the Irish Book Award for Popular Fiction for The Year I Met You.

Alice doesn’t like bright sunlight, seeing people’s colors gives her a headache and she doesn’t like people touching her. I am fascinated and inspired by the human spirit, by the fact that no matter how hopeless we feel and how dark life can be, we do have the courage, strength and bravery to push through our challenging moments. It’s been quite a while since a book brought me to tears, let alone left me with an ache in my heart and tears of joy tracing my cheeks.
