About this deal

The actual makeup of the varnish is what’s really important, not whether you spray- or brush-apply it (coat thickness will play a part too of course). If so it might simply be unrealistic for a painting (again, texture in the work will be hard to conceal without a pretty thick coat) but if you paint on a rigid support and permanence isn’t an issue you might consider using what they use on bartops, I’ve seen it used over decoupage so I’m sure it would work over acrylic paint and the finish is incredible.

BUT if you make sure all doors and windows are closed - also have a bucket of steamy water in the studio to add humidity - and apply fairly speedily with a large flat soft watercolour brush - you'll get an excellent result. It would have a noticeable yellow colour and may not bond satisfactorily to acrylic paint but these are reasonably flexible when young and are supposed to have good resistance to marring, far superior to any acrylic emulsion certainly. To preserve the quality of the surface, we recommend regular cleaning and care using a lint-free cotton cloth. Traditionally a combination of drying oil, resin, and a thinner or solvent, Varnish is a transparent liquid which dries to form a hard, protective film.

The formulas are all compatible - just make sure you don't mix them vigorously as you may capture air bubbles and cause a cloudy effect. We provide inks to many of the UK's leading offset printers and pride ourselves on our name and reputation. If you’re concerned with longevity I would strongly advise using a spirit-based varnish as your final protective layer, Liquitex’s Soluvar and Golden’s MSA varnish are both of this type and intended for acrylic paintings, they should be fairly easy to get in the US.strong>

Please note: due to trading agreements we are unable to ship this product outside of the UK and EU. Each brushstroke should slightly overlap the previous so that you don’t leave thin spots or narrow bands uncovered but if these do occur don’t overwork the surface trying to rectify it, leave it for the next coat to even out. First, the painting should be allowed to dry for at least 48 hours before varnishing, in the case of thicker paint longer might be required, especially in humid conditions. For water-based varnish rinse it out thoroughly (under a cold running tap is good) until there is no milky residue visible when you bend or squeeze it and then lightly soap and rinse thoroughly again. Seal your acrylic work with a transparent, high gloss acrylic layer which is breathable, permanent and protects against UV damage.
