About this deal

Standard features such as instant notifications, live view and two-way talk are available out of the box and for free on all Ring devices. Hardwire compatible Ring Video Doorbells using your existing doorbell wiring, for non-stop power and protection.

The reference standard EN 61558-2-8 does not specify a specific time but states “Bell and chime transformers are generally intended to supply domestic sound signalling equipment and other similar devices where the load is applied for short periods of time. Those DIN-rail-mounted transformers for installation in the consumer unit are extremely common across the channel in Europe; so what's absolutely normal over there appears unusual in the UK. com/hc/en-us/articles/115000148786-Ring-Video-Doorbell-Pro-European-Version ,so needs to go into a CU. I have a Ring Pro Hardwired doorbell, and am having a devil of a job sourcing an appropriate transformer for it.

So I have recently installed one of these, replacing a very old transformer hardwired Friedland doorbell. The original transformer was outside of the Consumer Unit, so as I knew it wouldn't be suitable for the Ring doorbell, I purchased a Wylex 2 module housing to put the new Ring Transformer in. I’ve bought a Ring Video Doorbell Wired, the transformer for my current doorbell is only 6VA, 6V, 50HZ. But the real over-the-top thing would be to replace the whole consumer just because you need some more space for this.Would the best practice to be to have an additional CU with a mains switch (so its possible to isolate if required), then wire this from one of the 6A lighting MCBs (since the ring pro will be drawing little current)? When it comes time to change to a hardwired Ring device then I'll need to replace the bell box with a Ring transformer that'll step down to 24v and then place this in some suitable housing. Nevertheless a lower load than the nominal one destabilizes the voltage output, which by standard has a tolerance of 15% at full load but 100% with no load!

There are many options, which can make it confusing, but this is to make it possible to cope with every possible set-up.I'm having a porch built and the wiring for a standard dumb wired doorbell has already been costed into the quote. This is an ac/dc 'power supply' and although designed to mount on a DIN rail, it should be fed via a mcb. com/p/mk-sentry-4-module-unpopulated-enclosure-only-consumer-unit/6563p and other brands likewise, some can be purely 2 way. Your Ring Video Doorbell Pro requires a power source that supplies a minimum of 16 volts AC at ~20 volt-amps when connected directly to a transformer (supplied) or plug-in adapter. Disconnect power to the installation area at your circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning installation.
