Hannibal Rising probably made a bit of mockery at Hannibal Lecter, the genius of a cannibalistic serial killer.His next four novels focused on the “great fictional monster of our time”, as horror author Stephen King once described Lecter. The series has since expanded into film and television, having four timeline-connected franchise films produced by Dino De Laurentiis Company: The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Hannibal (2001), Red Dragon (2002) and Hannibal Rising (2007), with three starring Anthony Hopkins. Thomas Harris tries to put a past behind the character and cooks up a concoction which is quite mind boggling. I’ll torture myself to get to the end because I get this feeling like I’m cheating myself and the author if I don’t.
