It comes with all the necessary bits and bobs for application inside, including a big LED/UV lamp that easily fits a whole hand (some don’t! I would say to make sure you get a gel nail cleansing wipe as well, as you do need to wipe off the tacky residue but then they are super hard. Having gel nails done in the salon is one of my favourite activities, especially when I'm going to see an expert nail technician who can transform my nails within an hour. Most gel top coats will require you to wipe them with the prep solution to remove any sticky residue. But I do like to always look presentable, which means I am happy to invest in good-quality products and services (from my makeup and skincare to nail and hair appointments), ensuring there is as little upkeep and general doing on my end as possible.
Unfortunately, the kit lost another point from me because within days of use, the polish always peels. Inside each kit is 20 nail polishes alongside a base coat and two top-coat finishes: one glossy, one matte. However, the mini macron (so named because it looks like the French sweet treat) really impressed me.
Apply your chosen colour Coat in the same way as the base coat; a thin coat, cap the end, avoid your skin. I don't think any at-home gel kit can compare to the manicure that a professional nail tech can do, but this is the next best thing. I’d already had a bit of practice at gel nails having experimented at home before and also watched technicians doing them on me again and again, but even a novice gel nailer could follow the instructions for these as they’re incredibly easy. So I recommend taking your time and being mindful of removing any excess polish from the cuticles before curing under the lamp. Clip and file your nails into your desired shape - DO NOT saw back and forth, gently file one way into the centre of your nail. After that use Bluesky's own gel polish removal wraps, which are a quick and easy way to remove the polish. It may be the most expensive part of making the transition to at-home nails, but you won’t get far without a lamp to set the gel.

I found if I used my cleansing wipe before and after application (like advised to do when you follow correct instructions for gel nails) then they last for ages and I have had no chips in the last week. Use a small amount of cleanser on your orangewood stick, spread the gum gel into the tip to the length required. Some people however have naturally very oily nail plates, which causes gel polish, artificial nails and even regular nail polish to not stay on properly. I think this starter kit would be perfect for someone who wants to hone their nail skills and learn new techniques.
Our testers loved the choice of colours and most found the application straightforward, fast and streak-free. A nice surprise in the kit was the cleanser wipes, which come in handy if you're not to good at colouring within the lines.
