It was a fun model to pint and I used a mixture of “Army painter speed paints” and “inks” to really get the colours to pop! Of all the evil powers in the world, the Balrog is amongst the most terrible and as one of the largest models we sell, is the perfect centre piece for an evil army. However, the Mûmak War Leader has the chance to cancel any Heroic Move declared within 12” of him, allowing his Royal War Mûmak to charge unimpeded through enemy lines! With a Fight value of 8, a Strength of 6 (which goes up to 7 on the Charge) and the Monstrous Charge special rule, which gives him +1 Attack and the ability to knock enemy models Prone on the Charge, Gwaihir is an absolute beast in combat.

Enemy models with a Strength of 6 or lower are the perfect target for his Charge, as he’ll knock over the likes of Fell Beasts or Trolls, making them easy pickings. As Warhammer Fantasy grew more streamlined and mainstream, Balrogs never appeared again, likely due to copyright reasons. Unlike most all-Monster forces, the Eagles are not restricted by low movement and they can fly around the board at great speeds.
