About this deal

The problem is that, swept up as they are in Angron’s orbit, everyone else in the book feels very similar. That became one of my favourite parts – in another world, I could have written a novel about that story alone! They’re more like an overwhelming destructive force, so rather than presenting scenes from his point of view, to ruminate on his wants and ambitions, it’s more about characters experiencing him, and how his presence affects their own lives. Chris Forrester’s Wrath of the Lost is an excellent example of how to make rage more than just two-dimensional.

I fully admit that I am biased, as Angron and the World Eaters are my favorite primarch and legion respectively. We have Kossolax the Foresworn, a powerful warlord and the current master of the Conqueror – Angron’s ancient flagship. David: I did enjoy writing about my renegade Leidis, and I think anyone interested in how a broken Legion like the World Eaters actually functions will like his scenes. Angron’s a tricky one – he’s one of those “force of nature” characters that you can’t really empathise with or get inside the head of, so there’s definitely a challenge there. The rest of it focuses solidly, absolutely on several different portrayals of the World Eaters past, present and future without leaning hard on 'big names'. WarCom: What kinds of characters and aspects of Chaos can readers expect to see through the lens of the World Eaters?

The characters tended to blend together as they were almost all very similar, and I found myself losing interest as the story went on. That being said, this could be more on the general theme and source material for the World Eaters, rather than a reflection on the writing. He's just rage made manifest, and the narrative makes it abundantly clear that there is no possible redemption for him. That’s why I’m reading this book, because in all honesty, Angron: The Red Angel is the sort of book I’d usually shy away from.Like Mike Brooks’ Harrowmaster this book shows just how a legion operates after 10,000 years of conflict - the appeal of the World Eaters to fallen Astartes is made clear, and Guymer also manages to plausibly show how so many of the original frothing maniacs manage to survive to continue the Long War. But also the breadth of work across the Horus Heresy series, as lots of authors have written about the Primarchs in lots of different situations, and the reading I did for both books put me in a good place to continue Angron’s story.
