About this deal

The devil has been granted enlarged power in the world by the manner in which he is ignored and God is denied. I was expecting (obviously) for this to be saturated with doctrine (which I'm usually okay with) when it comes to this topic. I am open and receptive to the concept of the Trinity (which appears in many religions) as it pertains to Catholicism, as well as the concept of a spiritual teacher sacrificing his life to teach us about sacrificial love, redemption, and our soul.

My main concern with the book is how unquestioningly judgmental it is of lifestyles of which Amorth didn't approve, and also of other religions. Amorth, the Exorcist of Rome, instructs in this work that the person who should be most skeptical of claims of possession or demonic interference and influence, is actually the Exorcist himself. He breaks the problem down into understandable and manageable divisions, in a way not set forth in the literature previously. I was raised Catholic and find so many of the Catholic traditions beautiful, meaningful, important, significant, and filled with truth. While I do agree that leading a devout Christian life can be an admirable pursuit, the book seems to imply that it inevitably leads to a power struggle, as power has a tendency to corrupt. The author suggests that the human species has only been capable of exorcising demons or devils for the past 2000 years, which is a claim that lacks logical support. Amorth's book should be considered as the primary reference to understanding the weaknesses of Man against this powerful entity, who was once the perfect angel created by God.

Again, this may not be unexpected for a priest, but it would help his case to show just a touch more skepticism. Should you start to worry about the notion that facts are subjective and wonder if maybe there are alternative explanations for these utterly diverse phenomena - beware! I much preferred the accounts of Ed and Lorraine Warren, who speak about exorcisms but take a holistic and nonjudgemental perspective and who are also completely different storytellers.

I could've been more patient with the pieces of the story (because it is a story) that don't make sense to me. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Rather, it touches on many factors: the nature of Christ, the angels, and the demons; forms and characteristics of diabolic activities; and the basic theories of exorcism---what it is, who can do it, when should it be done, why it should it be done, and how it should be done.
