It’s just one setting. No strobe/SOS/red light setting. That’s fine. I like that it’s simple. I have other lamps that have those options if needed. The light does get dimmer after a number of hours of use but still very strong. This I find happens with all LED battery powered lamps. It is true that these lanterns do NOT work with NiMH rechargeable AA batteries(as other reviewers have stated), even if you charge the batteries to a high voltage. I've charged AA NiMH rechargeable batteries to over 1.4 volts each, and they still won't make the lanterns work, at least not with the three brands I've used. Sidelight - LED Lantern】The side lantern has three modes: full-brightness white light (320lm), steady red light and flashing red light, suit for emergency, power cuts, working, etc. Headlight - LED Torch】The torch has two white light modes: full brightness (500lm) and low brightness (300lm), suit for dog-walking, searching, camping, etc. It will operate on just 2 batteries. It has a capacity for 4 which means it can last longer but it’s good that 2 is enough. Rule #1, ya get what ya pay for! With that being said these are a pretty good value for the price and are great as emergency lanterns which is what I bought them for.Whether you’re sleeping in a tent in the middle of the woods or launching a nighttime kayaking adventure, a good camping lantern can be your most treasured tool. Simplemost Media This lantern is similar to the Etekcity model I bought a few years ago for about the same price. They even share some of the same exact plastic parts. Those also take 3 AA batteries. By comparison, the Eveready use what appear to be COB LEDs where the Etekcity uses a cluster of discrete LEDs. The Eveready lantern is twice as bright as the Etekcity, but it exhausts the batteries in 4 hours. It came with Eveready 1100mah AAs and I tested battery life using 2000mah Enloop rechargeables, which are much higher capacity and should last much longer than the Eveready batteries that came with it. At the 2 hour mark the brightness had diminished by 50%, at 3 hours it had diminished to 12% brightness, and at 4 hours it was down to below 10% brightness. By comparison, the Etekcity were still at 40% brightness after 6 hours using the same batteries. Eveready's claim of 16 hours of runtime is misleading at best. Maybe the Eveready would have stayed lit at below 10% brightness for 16 hours if I had continued my test, but at that light level the lantern is pretty much useless. It's white light and I really don't get the whole "it's too bright thing" You can temper the brightness by just not extending the collar all the way out. This in no way compares in output to a dual mantle coleman at full burn... so there.
