About this deal

It's as much a novel about navigating the social minefield of adolescent friendships and peer relationships as it is about possession. Underneath all of the bad-mouthing and arguments they had had, Hendrix keeps those strings attached and plays on each one bringing the reader back to root for a possessed Gretchen's recovery. A book podcast recently hailed Grady Hendrix as the king of creating nuanced female characters within the horror genre. Final note, if you grew up in the 80's you'll definitely get a kick out of the nostalgic pop culture elements.

Por cierto, como apunte final vi la película de este libro cuando salió y me pareció malilla pero entretenida hasta cierto punto.

My Best Friend's Exorcism” by Grady Hendrix is yet another novel I’ve read of his that proves he’s one of the best horror authors out there. I love the 80's setting, and I love the title of each chapter being an 80's song, it was hilarious and awesome. Gretchen's downward spiral progressed at a steady rate that just creeped me out, her actions and obliviousness to her appearance made me extremely nervous, what was going to happen?

Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries―and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil? My instincts tell me this book was written as an homage to the 80's and the silly fun that the horror genre provided at that time. The inter-girl politics between Abby, Gretchen, and their friends was very well done and believable. A hardback edition was published on May 17, 2016, through Quirk Books and an audiobook narrated by Emily Woo Zeller was released through Blackstone Audio. They harboured real teenage fears and wanted to protect each other from harm, but also they wanted to be slightly rebellious and make a name for themselves - a true depiction of teenage years we've grown past. The characters have nuance too, and even those who don’t end up changing or going through anything major hardly feel static because they’re likely to be relatable figures. I really enjoyed this one, it was unique, i like his writing style, its quirky, I also found certain bits horrible - like the tapeworm bit.

Abby's investigation leads her to some startling discoveries--and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?i’m not sure what i’m trying to understand by identifying these moments, other than reiterating that this is barely a horror novel, that it goes 3/4 of the way before it is any different from a contemporary YA problem novel, and that i think that’s interesting. Es la segunda novela que leo de Grady Hendrix después de Horrorstör y la experiencia ha vuelto a ser muy divertida y aterradora a la vez. I listened to this as an Audiobook and although the screaming and volume kept going up and down depending on the situation, it was such a funny and quick book. So of course, Grady Hendrix was speaking my language this entire book-not one pop culture reference was wasted on me.
