Find sparkly bums, twinkly bums, jolly bums, snowy bums and lots more in this fun-filled celebration of Christmas – with an exciting festive finale! I haven’t counted all the animals to make sure there are 101 bums in this book, but I will just believe it. Chris now scribbles picture books and fiction titles for a living and has illustrated books for fantastic authors such as Peter Bently, Maz Evans, Lucy Rowland and Kes Gray. It’s great to have a Northern hub for children’s book community and it’s exciting to see how things will develop!Hachette asked me to design a few sample characters to pitch for a rhyming picture book, originally titled Jiggly Bums. I’m also working on several exciting picture books with Egmont and Hachette, including a new series written by Peter Bently! The text written by Sam Harper was extremely funny and I knew I’d have a lot of fun illustrating all of the crazy characters! I began by sketching the T-rex and little mouse for the text ‘big bum and little bum,’ along with the mammoth and a prickly hedgehog. Follow the bouncy read aloud rhyme, count the animals, then join in with the jiggly, wiggly dance finale!

That sounds a bit weird, but if you read this book (or look at the cover for that matter) you will see what I mean. I am definitely not the age group for this book, but I just love a book that makes me laugh, and bums make me laugh. I’ve now had the pleasure of working with some of the biggest publishers from around the world and I’m lucky enough to be illustrating amazing picture books, including 101 Bums! Sam has a great sense of humour and loves to make children laugh with his writing, and seeing how incredible illustrators can bring his silliness to life on the page.Hachette have also recently opened new office in Manchester and founded Children’s Books North on social media. There are so many great online resources and the art community is generally very helpful and friendly on Twitter and Instagram.
