Unless this has been massively reformulated recently (Edit - seems like it might have been and I ended up with a new bottle) I feel like I must be anosmic to it, because it’s neither deep, nor Red smelling! That kind of spicy vanilla was awful on my skin, while on her it was rich and her flat, clothing, purses were soaked in Deep Red. The fresh and mouthwatering opening is followed by ginger leaves, freesia and hibiscus accords of the heart. Once the initial freshness fades the fruitiness starts to come in, I definitely smell citrus and also the ginger. it does remind me a lot of Valentino V, which has been a favorite since middle school, but it's deeper and warmer.

It also has a masculine undertone, think wearing a women's scent but men's deodorant - perhaps it's the combination of ginger, cedar, and sandalwood? I think a very secure and bold woman will love this perfume, I dislike anything too "confident" so this isn't for me. On my skin it's actually quite light on the woody notes, so it definitely is not masculine or unisex at all to me. However, the performance is nothing compared to what it once was in the early 2000's prior to IFRA reformulations.Deep Red is a lot of vanilla with some underlying spiciness from the ginger and sweetness from the blood orange uplifted by floral notes and grounded by woods. But it's very wearable in the cooler months and I don't mind re-applying a couple of spritzes at the end of the day. My significant other loves this one and it puts a spell on him, which is somewhat disappointing because I like my perfumes to be a bit more polarizing. Per Fragrantica, this fruity-floral aroma opens with notes of black currant, pear, tangerine and blood orange.

Other Hugo Boss fragrances for women include Hugo Boss Femme Eau de Parfum, a lighter, more feminine perfume, Hugo Boss The Scent for her Eau de Parfum, a rich and flowery scent, and the classic Hugo Boss Orange. Not overly strong but you can give yourself a headache if you spray too much (or inhale it too much in the beginning fresh stage).If you are looking for a scent that still has an air of mystery about it - this is the scent for you. In fact, I don't think that I have smelt anything like it since and it remains a very unique composition in perfect accord with its name. I do get the sandalwood, a sandalwood I don't particularly care for, but to each her own taste about sandalwood.

I think this is suitable for all year round wear and would make anyone feel especially wonderful when wearing it. One of my GF's in the 2010s had an early 2000s-era bottle of it, and god damn, this stuff smelled enchanting when she wore it in wintertime.
