There was no place for a resting Stokes in the one off Test against Ireland in late July, but at this point in the book he does stray beyond what might be considered strictly necessary and gives a full account of his desire to retrieve the England vice-captaincy and how he went about that.

Stokes only made 2 and 28 runs in the final test, but he did take 4 wickets in the match, as England won by 191 runs to secure a second consecutive away series win against South Africa.He remained the last man standing in two matches for the ages - the World Cup final ( which England won but New Zealand did not lose) and the Headingley one wicket win ( which reiterated that Test Cricket ,despite being on a ventilator for long, is capable of showing some glorious signs of life).
